Reuters, the world's largest international news organisation, is looking for a sharp, bilingual journalist to join our Brazil team for the 2026 general elections. The role combines data research for an election results product and the production of fact checks for our customers.

About the Role
In this opportunity as Election Data Journalist / Fact Checker, you will:
- Support our election results product: Ensure the accuracy of TSE-sourced results data by attending online TSE technical briefings and translating technical documentation published by the electoral authority.
- Participate in election-night operations: Collaborate with product managers, technical leads, and Portuguese-speaking journalists in live channels from poll-close through results confirmation across both rounds.
- Translate and relay technical information: Attend TSE live simulation sessions and translate findings for the development team.
- Identify, research and verify online claims: Proactively detect and investigate misinformation for Reuters' Brazil fact-checking operations.
- Review posts and videos in Portuguese and English: Determine accuracy and write concise verification notes for internal and partner use.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Election Data Journalist / Fact Checker if your background includes:
- Professional fluency in Portuguese and English, including the ability to translate and summarise under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience in journalism, fact-checking or analytical research, particularly involving digital misinformation.
- Familiarity with Brazilian politics, the media ecosystem and online misinformation trends.
- Ability to work quickly and independently during high-pressure, high-volume periods such as election nights.
- Strong critical-thinking, verification and source-evaluation skills.
- Comfort working in multilingual, multi-disciplinary teams that span editorial, product, data and technology functions.
- A degree or equivalent professional experience in journalism, political science, communications or a related field.
