These pages are a critical gateway in the customer journey, helping travellers discover destinations, properties, and travel experiences worldwide. The team partners closely with SEO, SEM, Product, Content, and other engineering groups to deliver fast, reliable, high-quality experiences at a massive scale.

As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you’ll shape how millions of travellers first discover and begin planning their journeys across Expedia Group’s brands. You’ll take ownership of the architecture, technical direction, and long‑term evolution of the backend platforms that power high‑traffic landing and entry experiences, operating at the intersection of growth, experimentation, and large‑scale distributed systems. You’ll design and evolve the foundational infrastructure that enables rapid experimentation, fast iteration cycles, and consistently high‑quality user experiences across all landing‑page surfaces. Working closely with product, design, data science, marketing, and engineering partners, you’ll deliver highly available, low‑latency services and APIs that support personalisation, experimentation, and continuous optimisation. You'll set engineering best practices, mentor engineers across multiple squads, and provide hands‑on technical leadership. Expect to work with modern technologies, including Kotlin/Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and advanced observability and experimentation platforms.

This is a highly collaborative and technically demanding domain where engineering excellence, cross‑team influence, and strong product intuition are essential. In this role, you will:

• Lead the end-to-end design and development of highly scalable, resilient landing page services and experiences that power customer acquisition and engagement across multiple brands and platforms.

• Define and evolve service, API, and data models for landing page systems, ensuring clean contracts, robust low-level designs, and efficient integration with upstream and downstream services.

• Set technical direction, standards, and best practices for frontend and backend engineering within Landing Pages Engineering, influencing architecture, reliability, performance, and security across the domain.

• Drive experimentation and data-informed decision making by partnering with product, analytics, and marketing to implement and iterate on features that optimize conversion, SEO, and overall customer outcomes.

• Mentor and elevate other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical coaching, fostering an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture that is adaptable across multiple problem domains.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Significant professional experience as a software development engineer building and operating large-scale, customer-facing web applications or services, including ownership of critical services or multi-service flows.

• Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing service architectures, including system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling for high-traffic, low-latency systems.

• Proven ability to take technical ownership across a broad domain, collaborating with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, observable, and maintainable solutions in production.

• Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages and associated ecosystems used to build scalable, distributed systems and web applications.
