Introduction to the Team:

The Marketplace Health (MPH) organization supports services, processes, and data analytics that maximize positive outcomes in EG’s marketplace for both travellers and supply partners.
We are a group of product and engineering delivery teams situated in Expedia Marketplace (Design & Trust), focused on the health (the state of well-being, free from issues) and trust (firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something) of the Expedia travel marketplace.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain highly available, low-latency, and scalable services and APIs, including system design (low-level design), API design, and data modeling across multiple components or services

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex technical features, breaking down ambiguous problems, defining clear technical approaches, and driving solutions from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring

  • Improve service reliability, observability, and operational excellence by defining and implementing robust logging, alerting, automated testing, and deployment pipelines, and by participating in on-call and incident response as needed

  • Collaborate closely with product, architecture, and cross-functional engineering teams to make data-informed technical decisions, align on trade-offs, and ensure solutions are reusable and fungible across multiple domains and platforms

  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, and apply familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and AI/ML concepts to enhance real-world products and engineering efficiency

  • Champion engineering best practices, including code quality, security, performance optimization, and continuous improvement, while mentoring other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and knowledge sharing

Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Professional experience in software development, including owning and operating production services or applications within a multi-service or domain environment

  • Proven expertise in at least one modern programming language, along with strong skills in system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling for distributed or service-oriented architectures

  • Experience building, deploying, and supporting services in a cloud-based environment, including use of CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and monitoring/alerting tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced experience designing and evolving service architectures at scale, including performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimizing data models and APIs for high traffic and low latency

  • Track record of technical leadership within a team or domain, such as driving architectural decisions, leading complex refactors or migrations, and establishing or improving engineering standards and practices

  • Strong background in observability and operational excellence, including deep experience with metrics, tracing, logging, incident management, and automated resilience and recovery mechanisms

  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows, with experience safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled solutions in production services to improve user experiences, operational efficiency, or decision making

  • Experience applying AI/ML concepts such as recommendation, ranking, or anomaly detection to product or platform capabilities, including collaborating with data science or ML engineering teams on model integration and lifecycle
