Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Vision and Alignment: Contribute to defining, communicating, and continuously refining a compelling engineering vision that translates business objectives into actionable strategies. Ensure engineering teams are aligned and engaged, collaborating closely with product, experience, delivery, infrastructure, and security teams. Leverage technical artifacts and feedback loops to illustrate and evolve the vision. Set the payroll technology vision and multi-year strategy, aligning processes, platforms, and vendor solutions to enterprise business goals, supported by clearly defined KPIs and performance metrics
Advocacy and Technology Roadmap: Champion the integrated engineering strategy and technology roadmap, ensuring organizational awareness of objectives, KPIs, maturity, and compliance. Promote a culture of reuse, quality, and speed to maximize outcomes. Actively engage and energize teams around the engineering vision and its alignment with business and technology goals. Define and execute the U.S. payroll technology roadmap, ensuring scalable architecture, stable and secure integrations, and robust reporting and analytics capabilities.
Craft Mastery and Objectives Realization: Drive achievement of engineering KPIs, including system performance, scalability, security, and maintainability. Contribute hands-on to design and code, mentor engineers, and resolve technical challenges. Inspire teams to adopt new technologies and best practices, fostering a passion for engineering excellence.
Capability Evolution and Development: Lead by example through thought leadership-speaking at conferences, publishing, R&D, or collaborating with academia. Cultivate a growth mindset and modern engineering behaviors across the team. Apply strong working knowledge of data replication and integration patterns (including BIB) to influence and validate scalable, compliant payroll technology designs. Plan and lead parallel payroll validation and reconciliation during implementations, upgrades, conversions, and major system or process changes.
Iterative Value Delivery: Embrace an iterative and incremental product development, favoring action, prioritizing rapid learning, and adaptation over extensive upfront planning. Apply leaning-forward approach and empirical methods to navigate complexity, ensuring each iteration delivers value and aligns with customer and business needs. Lead and support implementations of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (ECP), including migrations from SAP ECC Payroll, ensuring business continuity, data integrity, and stakeholder confidence.

Tech/Quality Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring operational excellence and resilience. Provide end-to-end ownership of U.S. payroll technology support, including time processing, finance postings, benefits and third-party interfaces, off-cycle payroll runs, and all special payroll events (e.g., year-end, bonus processing).
Influential Communication: Influence, persuade, and drive decision-making processes. Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms. Craft clear, structured arguments and technical trade-offs, supported by evidence. Act as the primary technology voice for payroll, partnering closely with HR, Payroll Operations, Finance, and IT stakeholders, and communicating complex technical concepts clearly to executive and business audiences.
Organizational Engagement and Collaboration: Engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization, from team members to middle management to executives. Build collaborative and constructive relationships, co-creating and driving momentum and value across multiple organizational levels. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $124,600 to $255,900.

Key Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline. An advanced degree (e.g., MS) is preferred but not required. Enterprise experience is the most relevant factor.
- 15+ years experience in SAP with significant part of that in driving Payroll implementations in ECC (or S/4)
- Proven record of setting the payroll vision and multi-year strategy, aligning processes, technology, and vendors to business goals, with clear KPIs
- 10+ years of proven experience defining the payroll technology roadmap, ensuring scalable design, stable integrations, and robust reporting and analytics
- Excellent software engineering and product architecture/design foundation with deep understanding of Business Context Diagrams (BCD), sequence/activity/state/ER/DFD diagrams, OOP/OOD, data structures, algorithms, code instrumentation, and messaging patterns (e.g., routing, transformation, construction, channel, endpoint, adapter, sequencing).
- Proven track record of strengthening the team by shifting to proactive monitoring of payroll solution, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, strictly following timelines and managing technology team that supports end-to-end US payroll processing and ensure accuracy, control, compliance, and timeliness
- 8+ years of experience in SAP payroll configuration - wage types, Schema & rules, retro processing, and U.S.-specific rules (as applicable)
- Expert level process and technical knowledge of SAP ECC and SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (ECP) including, but not limited to, payroll and time schemas and rules, wage types, time processing, finance posting, benefits interfaces, off cycle runs, loans, garnishments, tax calculations, retroactive calculations, and all special events. (Year-end, bonus, etc.)
- Experience leading and participating in multiple SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central (ECP) implementations for large, complex customers.
- Proven track record of strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort with Executive interactions.
- Demonstrated experience with defining and driving engineering KPIs, implementing engineering maturity models, and driving continuous improvement.
- 3+ years of experience with AI/ML; experience with the latest GenAI models is preferred.
- Proven ability to drive adoption of modern engineering practices at scale, including cross-functional collaboration.
- Demonstrated experience aligning engineering initiatives with business and customer value, delivering measurable outcomes in agile environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to handle diverse situations, complex projects, and changing priorities, behaving with passion, empathy, and care.
