Job Description

The Associate Director, R&D Integrated Planning and Activation, will work directly with the Director, R&D Integrated Planning and Activation, to ensure cross-functional connectivity and consistency in internal communications across the global R&D organization. Key responsibilities include developing R&D employee engagement and communications strategy, stakeholder management and delivering plans and messages to support R&D-wide initiatives, culture campaigns and change management efforts in alignment with business priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Director, R&D Integrated Planning and Activation, and in partnership with Corporate Affairs and R&D functional communicators, to align, activate and pull-through R&D initiatives and employee engagement communications, ensuring elevation of the R&D Identity and integration with R&D strategic priorities.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver R&D employee engagement and communications strategy for R&D-wide signature programs and culture building campaigns, including but not limited to award and recognition programs and leadership development.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to R&D function communicators by providing advisory support and ensuring message pull-through and connection to enterprise R&D narrative.
  • Engage R&D function leadership and communications stakeholders to create, socialize, optimize, and implement R&D-wide initiatives and drive alignment and buy-in with guidelines.
  • Drive utilization and manage content for R&D-wide communications channels that enhance employee connection and engagement, including but not limited to town halls, leader forums, email, newsletters, intranet, and Microsoft TEAMS.
  • Deliver compelling written / digital / video content, creative storytelling, and consistent messages to support cross-functional R&D information updates and change management efforts.
  • Evaluate performance for strategic projects and communications based on real-time metrics, and refine strategies based on analytics.
  • Stay up to date on the industry external environment and evolving internal communications best practices to ensure optimal strategy across existing channels, as well as recommending new platforms for consideration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Communications or related field. Preferred MBA or master’s degree
  • Prior experience in R&D or scientific environments, pharma, biotech, and/or healthcare preferred.
  • Demonstrated success delivering integrated communications plans and managing stakeholder relationships with leaders / peers / teams. Ability to motivate, lead, influence, and engage without direct authority.
  • Expertise in large scale change management communications, employee engagement campaigns, and communications strategy.
  • Advanced project management and communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects with moderate-high complexity, often under a tight deadline.
  • Outcomes-focused with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Sound, logical problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of the market including scientific trends and issues as they relate to AbbVie.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, Staffbase, Unily for communications development and delivery
