As part of a mission centric, locally delivered and nationally powered organizanization, the Director of Patient & Community Outreach, Black and African American Health Initiatives will develop and lead the strategy and implementation of community-based initiatives for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) with the goal of increasing Black and African American patient engagement with the organization. Through these initiatives, the Director will work to improve outcomes and reduce disparities for patients and families impacted by blood cancers, particularly at the community level. The Director will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address needs identified in partnership with communities and implement strategies that address social determinants of health, enhance healthcare access, and increase utilization of LLS’s programs and services.  Additionally, the Director will support mentoring and development of Patient & Community Outreach (PCO) staff around outreach to Black and African American communities in their local regions. In partnership with PCO staff and leadership, the Director will have a special focus on cultivating and leading strategic partnership efforts with volunteers and community stakeholders working in underserved communities.  

While employees may be permitted to work remotely, travel to the assigned office, HUB or Satellite Offices may be required as determined by the employee’s manager and the employee’s People Organization Generalist.

LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT:   

• Mentor, guide, and support the growth of Patient & Community Outreach Managers (PCOM) and Community Outreach Specialists (COS) in areas prioritizing Black and African American outreach, education and support.
• Provide leadership and direction for department staff in the development and implementation of community-based health equity initiatives.
• Work closely with department leaders to develop of health equity strategic plans that include efforts focused on Black and African American communities.
• Serve as a subject expert in cancer health equity and community engagement for the Education, Services and Outcome Research (ESOR) Department.
• Provide feedback and insight across LLS teams to bring a community health lens to outreach, education, and programming efforts.
• Identify and lead opportunities to address program barriers through consensus building and cross-functional coordination across LLS Departments and with external stakeholders.
• Partner with PCO leadership to monitor and support staff effectiveness in community-based health equity initiatives through qualitative and quantitative performance metrics.
• Support enterprise-wide activities such as internal education, fundraising initiatives and grant proposals, and requests from Constituent Experience (CE). 
• Manage high-profile projects and report on program progress. 

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT:  

• Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, including community-based organizations, public agencies, and other community stakeholders and key opinion leaders to engage in strategic community health equity work and serve as a connector between local community leaders and Regional PCOM/COS teams as appropriate.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on program development and implementation, educational programs, community engagement, and other initiatives. 
• Represent LLS on regional and local coalitions, working groups, advisory boards, committees, panels, planning groups, etc.
• Ensure LLS resources are available to support the blood cancer community through community-based partnerships including presentations at conferences and to community groups. 

EXPECTATIONS:  

• BA or BS required; advanced degree preferred, preferably in public health education, social work, health services administration, or a related field.
• 7–10 years of program management experience.
• Prior supervisory or management experience strongly preferred. 
• Experience in developing, managing, and reporting on processes and metrics.
• Strong analytical skills, ability to learn quickly and create options, recommendations, and action plans.
• Self-motivated, accountable, and responsive to internal and external partners. 
• Able to understand and inform leadership on equity issues in healthcare, social services, policy, and other related areas.  
• Able to build and sustain internal and external partnerships with good business acumen.
• Must keep up to date with national, regional, and local trends and research in community health and serve as a representative of the organization at local and national activities. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT 

• Able to travel to different parts of the country to support field staff and meet with community partners. Approximately 50% or more travel.  Nights and weekends may be required at times.
• Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.
• Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.

We are excited to share the base pay range for this position is $80,000  to $100,000 . The offered compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at LLS we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the current compensation of similarly situated roles and direct team members. Base compensation is only one component of our Total Rewards program, which also includes an annual incentive plan and a competitive benefits package.
