NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Director, Accounts Payable based in our Daytona Beach, Florida office.  

Summary 

The Director of Accounts Payable is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounts payable function, ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant processing of company expenditures. This role requires strong judgement, leadership,  and the ability to translate policy, compliance requirements, and technology into practical solutions.  The Director leads the accounts payable team, drives functional initiatives, and partners closely with Finance, and other stakeholders across the organization.

Duties include but are not limited to:  

  • Oversee end-to-end AP operations to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient processing of invoices, payments, expense reports, and vendor inquiries
  • Serve as the functional owner of accounts payable systems, including ERP (Workday) and automation tools; partner with IT and Workday support to design, implement, test, and deploy technology solutions that improve efficiency, user experience, and internal controls.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and process improvements to ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, regulatory requirements, and company policies
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing activities related to accounts payable, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of vendor master data, tax documentation (e.g., W-9, W-8), and accounts payable records. 
  • Research accounting, tax (1099, 1042, use tax) and regulatory requirements and use sound judgment in applying them to relevant matters and decisions; translate technical guidance into clear procedures for the AP team and organization.
  • Handle complex payment issues, vendor escalations, and dispute resolution in a timely and professional manner
  • Lead and manage the accounts payable team to ensure accurate and timely processing, while developing and mentoring team members and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and customer service.
  • Handles special projects and other duties as requested 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required skills / experience: 

  •  8–10 years of progressive accounts payable experience, including leadership experience in a shared services or centralized service delivery environment within a complex, multi-entity organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, compliance (1099, 1042, state withholding), and financial systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financials reports and legal documents.  
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.  
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and resolve issues.  
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  
  • Ability to provide training sessions and presentations within the department, external to the department and members of management.  
  • Must be able to clearly explain accounting concepts clearly to non-financial leaders.
