Data Engineer III

Introduction to the Team:
Are you a data engineer looking to work on petabyte‑scale data for one of the world’s largest online travel platforms? Join Expedia Group’s Clickstream Data Engineering team to build cloud‑native pipelines and high‑quality behavioural data products that power experimentation, analytics, and ML across EG. You’ll partner closely with product, analytics, and ML teams to unlock new insights and more personalised travel experiences, while championing reliability, observability, and data quality in everything you build.

In this role you will:

• Develop and test complex data applications and related programs to ensure they meet design requirements.
• Apply knowledge of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms to write clean, maintainable, and optimized code.
• Design, build, and operate highly available, distributed systems for data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets.
• Mentor junior engineers and proactively team up with peers to understand cross-dependencies and solve shared problems.
• Recognize and address areas of inefficiency in code or systems and recommend advancements in data technologies, cloud platforms, and data models.

Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent related professional experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years of experience with a Master's degree.
• Experience working on large volumes of data and building and maintaining more than one data pipeline in production environments, including bug fixing, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
• Hands-on experience with data-centric programming languages (e.g., Java, Scala, Python) and at least one cloud technology (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a technical field.
• Experience designing and operating highly available, distributed systems for large-scale data processing (batch and real-time).
• Experience with streaming technologies (e.g., Spark Streaming, Flink, Kinesis) and familiarity with data modeling and schema design patterns.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers, leading code reviews, and leading complex, well-defined projects.
• Demonstrated ability to apply concepts of performance/scalability tuning and cost optimisation to data solutions
