    Overview

On the Forma Preconstruction team at Autodesk, our mission is to help teams meet the world’s rapidly expanding building and infrastructure needs, while making construction more predictable, safe and sustainable. Over $100 billion in new construction is managed on our platform every month. From major stadiums to local schools and hospitals, our tools are helping cities grow and communities come together.

As a Principal UX Designer on the Preconstruction team, you will be responsible for design strategy to implementation for the Takeoff product and quantification workflows targeting a range of preconstruction personas. To be successful, you should be comfortable working through ambiguity, driving simplicity out of complexity, and collaborating with a globally distributed team of product managers, engineers, designers & researchers. This role requires a diverse skill set including conceptual UX, systems thinking, prototyping, storytelling, and user research.  We’re looking for someone who is a champion for human-centered design, a relentless advocate for user needs, and has a track record of driving design in complex problem spaces to deliver compelling user experiences.

This position can be based anywhere in Canada. Please include resume, portfolio and password when applying. This is a remote-friendly role.

    Responsibilities
    • Partner with product managers, engineering, and research to define great experiences for complex, multi-workflow initiatives that scale across the Forma platform

    • Independently frame ambiguous problems, define opportunity spaces, and drive cross-team initiatives from discovery through delivery, navigating incomplete information and competing priorities.

    • Visualize and prototype solutions at various levels of fidelity including conceptual diagrams, wireframes, end-to-end workflows and detailed specifications

    • Present design work clearly to stakeholders and leadership, articulating platform tradeoffs, impact, and vision

    • Collaborate closely with one or more remote teams, working iteratively to deliver customer value

    • Plan, conduct and synthesize user research for complex initiatives, selecting appropriate methodologies and ensuring insights directly shape business outcomes and future roadmap evolution

    • Participate in and lead design-thinking exercises to break through organizational silos and collaboratively solve complex design challenges

    • Work within an evolving design system, while contributing improvements to evolve and expand standards and processes across platform teams

    • Contribute to team culture through critique, mentorship, and collaboration

    Minimum Qualifications
    • 8+ years of UX or product design experience, including delivering complex, multi-product ecosystems

    • Strong portfolio demonstrating recent user-centered design work

    • Proven ability to lead end-to-end design processes, from discovery and ideation through delivery

    • Demonstrable experience utilizing a variety of human-centered design methods and best practices. And you know how to choose the right tool at the right time to drive results

    • Strong proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools

    • Experience planning, conducting, and applying both qualitative and quantitative user research

    • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas to their essence

    • Comfortable working in a cross-functionally collaborative, fast-paced environment

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Familiarity or interest in AI-assisted workflows, agentic interfaces, or emerging interaction models.

    • BA/BS or graduate degree in HCI, interaction design, or equivalent experience

    • Experience with agile software design methods

    • Experience designing for enterprise-scale or complex ecosystem with multiple products

    • Experience contributing to or evolving design systems within a platform context

    • Familiarity or interest in construction, architecture, engineering or the built environment

    • Comfortable working on a distributed team and collaborating remotely
