The Opportunity: 

We are looking for Versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of powerful payment technology, you will get to see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.   

The Work itself: 

  • Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability 
  • Collaborate multi-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings 
  • Actively contribute to product quality improvements, valuable service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads 
  • Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers including end-user merchants, b2b, and business to government solutions. 
  • Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services, Transaction Platforms, Real-Time Payments, and Buy Now Pay Later Technology 
  • Opportunities to make a difference on a global or local scale through mentorship and continued learning opportunities 

Essential Functions:

  • Works directly with product owners to gather and refine requirements across products, adding and taking into account existing tools and solutions across the organization.
  • Develops and designs advanced architect solutions that are robust and scalable, considering integrations with other solutions across the internal technical ecosystem.
  • Provides domain expertise on the development of technical documentation of solutions and contributes to standard processes in technical documentation as needed.
  • Plays a key role in the development and delivery of new features across products from end-to-end.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or foreign equivalent), and 8+ years of relevant work experience; OR

Master’s degree in a related field (or foreign equivalent) and 5+ years of relevant work experience; OR

PhD in a related field (or foreign equivalent) and 2+ years of relevant work experience; OR

12+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

Combinations of education and experience that achieve equivalent proficiency will be considered.

You excel in several of the following (we don’t expect all):

LLM & AI/ML Integration (Core Requirement) – 4+ years integrating AI/ML capabilities into enterprise-grade platforms (or equivalent experience), including 2+ years with LLM orchestration, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embedding models, vector databases, and API integration of generative AI services (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Anthropic Claude, or equivalent).

Full-Stack Engineering & Integration Architecture – 7+ years designing, building, and delivering secure, highly available applications across backend services (Java, Go, Python, or equivalent) and modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, or equivalent), with expertise in API-first platforms, UI integration, REST/gRPC/GraphQL, and event-driven patterns (or equivalent).

Cloud & Containerization – 5+ years with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, or equivalent) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or equivalent), including scaling, optimization, and cost management.

Data Management – 7+ years working with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or equivalent) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, or equivalent), including schema design, query optimization, and distributed transactions.

Application & Infrastructure Security – 5+ years applying secure-by-design principles, API security, and vulnerability remediation (OWASP Top 10, TLS, IAM, PCI DSS, GDPR, or equivalent) in enterprise environments.

Responsible AI & Governance – Experience implementing bias detection, explainability, human-in-the-loop workflows, and compliance controls within AI systems, aligned to enterprise governance frameworks (or equivalent).

Developer Enablement & Generative AI in Engineering – 5+ years improving developer productivity through API standards, SDKs, CLI tools, and automation frameworks (or equivalent), including at least 1 year applying generative AI across the SDLC (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cline, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent) for code reviews, automated documentation, user story creation, and workflow automation.

Observability & Monitoring (Nice to Have) – Familiarity with observability frameworks and monitoring/tracing tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent) to support performance and reliability in distributed or AI-enabled systems.

Multi-Agent Orchestration (Nice to Have) – Familiarity with agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent) and multi-agent communication patterns (e.g., ACP, A2A, ANP, or similar).

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for this position is 152,200.00 to 243,700.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
