The Sr. Scientist II is reporting to the Biomaterials Research group in Tissue Material Sciences (TMS). The Sr. Scientist II will play a pivotal role in the development of innovative biomaterials for next-generation medical aesthetics products. Leveraging expertise in biomaterials, polymers, and biological components, this lab-based role will drive innovation to achieve targeted physicochemical and biological properties in fillers, biological injectables, and regenerative medicine prototypes, with an emphasis on product differentiation, efficacy, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute scientific research in biomaterials innovation, focusing on medical aesthetics applications, conceiving and advancing early-stage scientific initiatives.
- Develop and characterize new materials to meet desired physicochemical properties and biological features.
- Generate scientific elevation packages to facilitate product development.
- Propose new scientific projects and actively participate in pre-concept brainstorming and design stages.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues within TMS and other groups to achieve project and functional goals.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and support documentation for IP protection and regulatory submissions.
- Design and plan experimental studies for novel biomaterials development.
- Execute experiments for synthesis, formulation, fabrication, and characterization of prototypes.
- Analyse and interpret experimental data to provide technical recommendations that advance projects.
- Collaborate with global R&D partners on joint studies to achieve common project goals.
- Present at project team meetings to propose activities, review tasks, and report technical progress.
- Create and review technical reports and other documents for internal and external distribution.
- Generate Records of Invention (ROIs) and work with corporate patent counsel on IP documentation.
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Research and evaluate current literature and technology landscape to maintain and expand technical competence.
- Recommend new biomaterials, products, and technologies to enhance the company's market position.
- Ph.D., M.S. or B.S. in biomaterials, pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, polymer chemistry, or related fields.
- Experience requirements: 4+ years (Ph.D.), or 10+ years (M.S.), or 12+ years (B.S.) of relevant experience, including industrial work.
- Deep understanding of polymer-based biomaterials design with tailored features for medical applications, with expertise in synthesis, characterization, and formulation.
- Expert in bioconjugation and hydrogel crosslinking techniques.
- Demonstrated experience with biomaterials for medical devices, drug delivery systems, and/or regenerative medicine.
- Product development experience spanning proof-of-concept research, prototyping, and product development (preferred).
