Thomson Reuters Technology in Eagan, MN is looking for a highly motivated engineer who is passionate about delivering products to our customers. Our team works in an innovative, fast-paced environment, building large-scale systems and solutions for attorneys and customers in the Litigation and Transaction practice areas. We seek a results-driven, team-oriented, self-motivated software engineer.
About the Role
In this opportunity as a Software Engineer, you will:
- Estimate, design, code, and test - Deliver applications consistent with internal development processes, from design through implementation and automated testing.
- Work in Agile, test-driven ways - Collaborate in an Agile environment with a team of 8-12 peers; contribute through sprint ceremonies, code review, and shared ownership of outcomes.
- Take ownership of problems - Work independently and proactively, communicate clearly, and account for the quality and timeliness of your work.
- Build with modern web and cloud technologies - Apply HTML/JavaScript, Web APIs, Java (preferred), AWS/cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and complementary tools to ship reliable customer-facing capabilities.
- Collaborate across the team - Partner with peers, product, and stakeholders to break down requirements, support production systems, and continuously improve how we build and operate software.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Software Engineer if you have the following required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; computer science degree preferred; 3+ years of full-time web development experience.
- Experience with HTML, JavaScript, and Web APIs; knowledge of a JavaScript framework such as Angular (including newer Angular versions) or comparable frameworks (Knockout, Backbone.js, Ember.js, ExtJS, Dojo), with willingness to ramp up quickly on team standards.
- Strong experience in one or more traditional programming languages, preferably Java, including software engineering methodologies and software development tools.
- Experience with AWS or comparable cloud services and hybrid cloud ecosystems; exposure to deployment and edge patterns (for example Spinnaker, Zuul, Bastion, or similar concepts) and eagerness to learn Thomson Reuters platforms.
- Experience with Jenkins or a comparable continuous integration tool; experience with unit testing tools such as JUnit and Karma; experience with Gradle or equivalent build automation.
- Proven team player with strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and align with team priorities.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with non-SQL data access technologies, particularly Elasticsearch; preference for experience with GraphQL or similar non-SQL query approaches. Preferable experience with ElastiCache and Redis.
- Experience with visualization frameworks such as D3.js and/or charting products such as Highcharts. Domain knowledge in the legal ecosystem is a plus.
