DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

The Test Instrumentation Technician/Engineer performs routine and advanced testing, calibration, and setup activities in support of instrumentation engineering and product validation. This role involves configuring test cells, installing and maintaining instrumentation systems, and supporting vehicle, field, and lab-based testing. The technician works under limited supervision and collaborates with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to ensure accurate data collection and reliable test execution.

Key Responsibilities Instrumentation & Test Setup

  • Operate, calibrate, install, program, and repair test instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Configure and maintain test cells, rigs, and instrumentation hardware/software.
  • Fabricate and assemble test fixtures, servo-hydraulic systems, and calibration setups.
  • Install and calibrate sensors such as strain gauges and thermocouples with high precision.
  • Interpret and work from electrical wiring diagrams and technical documentation.

Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Perform routine and complex test setups and calibrations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic engine monitoring systems and test setups.
  • Support vehicle, field, and test cell activities including instrumentation and diagnostics.
  • Execute written test plans and report results in specified formats.
  • Operate data acquisition systems and general tools (e.g., multimeters, soldering irons, function generators).

System & Documentation Management

  • Assist in PC/network setup and troubleshooting for instrumentation systems.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and electronic documentation for parts, tests, and calibrations.
  • Coordinate test programs including planning, scheduling, component procurement, and progress tracking.
  • Create and verify customer, equipment, and technical information in service management systems.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Mentor apprentices and technicians.
  • Interface with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to support testing and service needs.
  • Present technical information to stakeholders, customers, and vendors.
  • Participate in safety and quality initiatives and drive continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education in a relevant STEM field.
  • Regionally applicable certification or Associate’s Degree in a relevant technical discipline may be required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Experience

  • Some work experience in instrumentation, testing, or engineering support.
  • Intermediate knowledge of engine systems, data acquisition, and calibration tools.
  • Experience with electronic service tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to fabricate and assemble test rigs and fixtures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
