NASCAR is seeking a skilled Licensing Counsel to support our national and international marketing and licensing teams across NASCAR and ARCA, based in our Charlotte, North Carolina office. This role is ideal for an attorney with strong experience in intellectual property law, licensing agreements, and brand/marketing legal support who thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑visibility environment.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Negotiate, review and draft licensing agreements for retail merchandise and other applications, including all video gaming and technology products featuring trademark licenses.
  • Advise national and international marketing teams regarding legal and complex business issues relating to Company's licensing initiatives, business development and internal industry compliance.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property law (domestic and international)
  • Provide mentorship in the Legal department by training and mentoring paralegals and contract coordinators and overseeing and reviewing their work.
  • Participate in brand marketing strategy meetings and recommend new policies, guidelines and procedures for client approvals and legal templates.
  • Review confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements for use with business and marketing suppliers.
  • Review advertising and promotion materials for substantiation, consumer protection, intellectual property issues and legal compliance.
  • Review rules, creative and other materials for sweepstakes and contests and advise clients regarding legal requirements for game structure and security.
  • Draft, review and negotiate advertising and brand marketing agency agreements.
  • Draft, review and negotiate hospitality and other agreements for corporate events.
  • Basic business acumen, familiarity with how a company operates, different functions and departments within a business, general financial understanding.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to discern the practical application of legal requirements; ability to apply knowledge, take into account business objectives, and communicate in a manner others, regardless of experience or discipline, can understand.
  • Must be able to build strong internal client relationships, comfort in effectively advising senior-level managers, and generate strong client satisfaction through quick turnaround and appropriate recommendations.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, sometimes evolving environment; takes initiative and demonstrates flexibility and adaptability.
  • Work on other assigned contracts to provide legal assistance to other groups on an as requested basis.
  • Approximate travel 25%, including weekend travel.

Required skills/experience:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited institution
  • 1–3 years of legal experience, preferably with exposure to licensing, intellectual property, marketing law, or corporate transactions
  • Active license to practice law in the United States and in good standing with the Bar
  • Strong knowledge of domestic and international intellectual property law
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and legal drafting skills
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable business guidance
  • High level of professionalism with the ability to advise senior‑level stakeholders
  • Strong relationship‑building skills and commitment to client service
  • Adaptability and comfort working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
  • Solid business acumen and understanding of organizational operations
  • Proficient with company‑provided hardware and software
  • License to practice law and in good standing with the Bar Association in the United States.
