- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of experience working as a technical software engineering leader or 13 years with an advanced degree.
- 5 years of experience in architecting and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with Cloud based architectures.
- 3 years of experience with AI- assisted development tools.
- Experience with technical innovation within cross-functional engineering environments.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or other relevant engineering discipline.
- Entrepreneurial drive and experience developing high-growth technology products and services.
- Deep understanding of programming languages, and knowledge of language design principles.
- Understanding of trade-offs involved in language design decisions, including performance, readability, expressiveness, and safety considerations.
- Understanding of the software development life cycle and opportunity for enhancement with GenAI.
- Ability to balance detailed, technical guidance with big picture strategy, enabling teams to deliver products that are effective.

Gemini Code Assist, which is a product in the Gemini for Google Cloud portfolio, offers AI-powered assistance to help development teams build, deploy, and operate applications throughout the software development lifecycle
As the Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and delivering next-generation GenAI/LLM-based solutions that will revolutionize the software development lifecycle. You will dive into the development process, from writing code using common developer tools, through the build, test, deploy process, and iterating with CI/CD systems. You will build the technical vision and roadmap for how we can evolve these tools and accelerate software development and delivery for all Google Cloud Platform users.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership and guidance for Gemini Code Assist (GCA) and will help accelerate our most critical and strategic Google Cloud Platform (GCP) efforts. You'll work closely with the Gemini Code Assist Engineering teams and with other stakeholders across GCP to develop complex, GenAI-based solutions that will modernize the software development life cycle.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
