Wealth Management Operational Risk sits within the 1st line of defense and is responsible for overseeing the operational risk and control framework across the Wealth Management business. This team partners with key stakeholders throughout the organization to execute independent risk monitoring functions, support process and control improvement, provide tactical and strategic reporting, execute incident management protocols, facilitate issue and action plan management and coordinate new operational risk programs in partnership with the business as well as 2nd Line of Defense business partners.
Key Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
This role will provide broad exposure to Wealth Management (WM) Operational Risk and business lines across WM with focus on persistent improvement of WM Operational Risk by implementing strategic vision for initiatives, functional alignment and integration, and coordination. Additional responsibilities will include support of issue management and data integration across WM Operational Risk programs for RCSA, Incident Management, Issues & Actions Management, and Control Validation. The responsibilities of the role are a combination of business as usual processes and discrete projects that are strategic in nature.
Specific duties within the WM Operational risk team will include:
- Work closely with various teams and functional groups within WM Operational Risk, including in Mumbai, to understand, liaise, and strategically improve team structure, efficiencies and data integration across teams
- Work closely with Business Control groups across WM to improve engagement and coordination across 1st Line of Defense in support of various Operational Risk programs and initiatives
- Work closely with 2nd Line of Defense to improve engagement and coordination for the various interaction roles and responsibilities including Risk Assessment, metric aggregation and analysis, and validation and testing programs.
- Work closely with counterparts in other Morgan Stanley Business Units (i.e., Investment Management and Institutional Securities Group), to ensure alignment and consistency in risk management program design in accordance with Firm Non-Financial Risk management framework and to improve engagement and cohesion across the Firm.
- Work closely with Business Control groups to identify and coordinate operational risks associated with new and existing products, services, technologies, vendors, processes and procedures across programs including RCSA, Incident Management, Issues & Actions Management, Policies & Procedures, and Control Validation to ensure that risks and corresponding remediation are appropriately defined, documented and integrated.
- Support recurring Wealth Management Risk management reporting and metric aggregation and analysis in partnership with key stakeholders.
- Provide feedback and identify opportunities to improve solutions where appropriate
- Support the maintenance of team procedures, tools and job aids to help facilitate effective administration of the Wealth Management Risk group
- Support ad-hoc projects to ensure appropriate solutions and/or analysis is delivered on-time and to a high level of quality

Qualifications:
- A successful candidate will be able to support a variety of operational risk management initiatives and must be able to manage changing priorities, make sound decisions, complete their assignments and proactively communicate where there are potential risks to the Firm. Attention to detail and accuracy is critical, given the executive audience for much of the team’s work. A candidate needs to be collaborative and able to build effective working relationships with all levels across the organization.
- Minimum 7+ years of risk management experience within financial services, preferably within business management, business controls, operational risk or internal audit
- Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently (candidate should be self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills)
- Basic knowledge of products and markets, particularly around retail brokerage or investment advisory programs, trade support and/or capital markets
- Ability to work in a small team environment, build and maintain a network of contacts and coordinate with a large number of stakeholders
- Solid interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication, with the ability to build / maintain a network of contacts, and coordinate with many stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize and work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (critical thinking ability)
- Ability to work well within a team
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, emphasis in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Bachelor’s degree required

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $85,000 and $135,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
