The BDST role partners with departmental leadership and functional leaders (VP/Head) to develop and implement both cross-functional and function-specific strategies that align with organizational goals. The position provides strategic thought partnership in setting and executing these strategies, helping to foster an inclusive, connected, and inspired culture. Key responsibilities include driving operational excellence by monitoring, evaluating, and optimizing processes; advising on strategic planning, resource management, budgeting, continuous learning, employee engagement, and performance management; and promoting collaboration and strong relationships with internal and external partners. Additionally, the BDST leads and drives global, complex, cross-functional projects and process improvement initiatives, specifically supporting R&D through external opportunity assessments and integrations. The role collaborates closely with ATO, S&E, BD&A, R&D leads, and finance to ensure cross-functional team effectiveness and alignment. Tactical input is provided on the implementation of strategic process improvement initiatives to ensure seamless and aligned execution across functions
- Serve as Chief of Staff for the designated functional Head, overseeing collection, synthesis, and communication of relevant information to inform strategy and departmental priorities aligned to organizational goals.
- Responsible for questioning and advising the business to create the best possible outcome to complex issues or projects.
- Brings rigorous conceptual thinking, leveraging external intelligence and/or resources.
- Acts as a “generalist” across the organization, bringing projects, concepts, and strategic direction together to ensure optimal outcomes and outputs across functional areas.
- Education: Advanced Degree required (Master’s, MD, MBA, PhD)
- At least 15 years or experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
- Ability to lead executive-level discussions to influence complex business decisions
- Preferred:
- Advanced degree is preferred (PhD, MD, or MBA)
- Experience managing large projects within a complex matrixed organization as a consultant to a pharmaceutical organization, either as an external consultant or an internal cross-functional lead.
- Demonstrated ability to present data and metrics to executive leadership teams that will lead to better business outcomes
