Sports Pictures Desk Editor - Livedesk

Reuters is seeking an ambitious journalist with outstanding knowledge of international sport and excellent written and spoken English, ready to thrive in a fast-paced global newsroom.

Our Global Pictures Desk sits at the heart of how the world sees sport. From the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cups to world championships across summer and winter disciplines, we ensure that every defining moment is delivered to clients worldwide with speed and accuracy.

We operate as one newsroom — a fully integrated global operation where pictures, text, digital, graphics specialists work in seamless coordination. When news breaks, we move together. When history is made, we are first to frame it. Our collaboration is our competitive edge.

This is a senior, full-time, desk-based position requiring flexibility and commitment. You will work within a global 24/7 rotating shift system, aligned with the rhythm of live sport — including weekends, afternoons and evenings.

About the Role

As a member of the Sports Pictures Desk, you will:

  • Edit sport events “live” as photographers file pictures directly from their cameras.

  • Write clear, fast, accurate English captions that bring context to every image.

  • Work closely with colleagues across pictures, text, video and online to produce integrated, multimedia coverage — reflecting our One Newsroom approach.

  • Contribute to cross-format awareness, recognizing how visual storytelling extends across both still imagery and moving images.

About You

  • Fluent English (additional languages are a strong advantage, including Spanish).

  • Deep knowledge of global sport, particularly football, and an instinct for what matters in live competition.

  • Experience in caption writing and metadata tagging (highly desirable).

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, remaining calm under pressure.

  • A degree or background in journalism, mass communication or English studies, or equivalent work experience.

  • An interest in photography and visual storytelling.

  • Working knowledge of picture editing tools like Photoshop.

  • While this is a picture-editing focused role, an interest in and working knowledge of video editing is beneficial, reflecting the increasingly integrated nature of our multimedia newsroom.

  • A commitment to Reuters Trust Principles: independence, integrity and freedom from bias.

  • A desire to contribute to a diverse, global team united by a shared mission.

Please Note: Complete applications must be submitted by 23:59 (CET) on Sunday 29th March 2026. Early applications are encouraged.
