AbbVie seeks a communications manager to drive execution of communication programs that support the U.S. Neuroscience and Eye Care business unit.
Reporting to the Head, Neuroscience and Eye Care, Global Therapeutics Communications & Public Affairs, the Manager is responsible for supporting execution of external communications programs. The Manager must possess business acumen, strong project management skills and communication experience while managing internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development of strategic, high-impact Public Affairs plans to support business needs. Manage implementation of tactical program elements and ensure deliverables are met on time and on budget.
- Manage review process for communications materials (press releases, key messages, social/digital content, etc.). Keep various parties apprised of status, timelines and directional shifts to ensure smooth review process and to meet corporate deadlines.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of emerging communications trends to maximize program impact, specifically in the area of influencer and digital engagement.
- Possess strong media relations skills to ensure all engagements with reporters are strategic and position AbbVie and the therapeutic area in a positive and balanced way.
- Oversee weekly media monitoring reports and other ad-hoc monitoring requests for the business.
- Support the identification and development of internal and third-party spokespeople and support the preparation of external speaking opportunities.
- Proactively anticipate and mitigate issues that may present reputational risk to AbbVie and brands.
- Simplify complex issues through strong verbal and writing capabilities.
- Consistently share best practices and offer new ideas and thinking to raise the bar for the Global Therapeutics Communications & Public Affairs team.
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Equivalent.
- 5-7 years’ experience in communications, with a proven track record of driving successful external communications initiatives for large, global companies, with either agency or in-house experience.
- Experience in the healthcare/bio-pharma industry strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in social media, digital and content marketing, and in innovative approaches to communications is required.
- A proactive, highly organized self-starter with an interest and ability to learn quickly and take ownership of projects.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
