We are seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our multidisciplinary team focused on developing robust production cell lines to enable AbbVie’s clinical and commercial biologics pipeline. This position offers an exciting opportunity to integrate genetic engineering, ‘omics data, cell and molecular biology, protein analytics, next generation sequencing and other approaches to further optimize a key aspect in biologics manufacturing – the efficient development and characterization of robust production cell lines with the desired high productivity, stability, and protein quality attributes. The successful candidate will optimize hosts, expression vectors, and processes to generate superior Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) production cell lines for increasingly complex biologics. The post-doctoral fellow will also drive publications and presentations, externally and/or internally, related to this work.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively collaborate with cross-functional colleagues and teams to meet project objectives.
- Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions, while seeking feedback from peers and supervisors.
- Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.
- Effectively organize and present scientific plans and data.
- Learn, understand, and master new experimental techniques. Innovate and implement new experimental protocols.
- Set and meet experimental timelines.
- Routinely read and apply relevant scientific literature.
- Effectively contribute through laboratory experiments with detailed documentation and data analyses.
- Contribute to writing and conceptual framework of presentations and publications.
- On-site / in person contributor.
- Successful completion of a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical or Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related fields. Graduate of accredited and nationally ranked university.
- Strong background in cell and molecular biology with extensive experience with cell culture and aseptic technique.
- Experience with ‘omics data analysis, transcriptomics, genetics, flow cytometry, fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), next generation sequencing, expression vector design, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and/or modeling methods is highly desirable.
- Record of publication in peer-reviewed journal(s)
- Excellent problem-solving skills including critical and analytical thinking
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills. Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute experiments, interpret data, and identify appropriate follow-up strategies.
- Proven track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, initiative, and integrity. Global mindset to thrive in a diverse culture and environment
- Ability to multitask and work within timelines.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
