Summary:
Thomson Reuters U.S. Inc. is seeking a motivated and talented Applied Scientist Intern to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on real-world problems, gain practical experience, and collaborate with experienced scientists and engineers.

About the Role:

  • Assist in the research, design, and development of machine learning models and algorithms for various applications, including natural language processing, information retrieval, and data analysis.

  • Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets to prepare them for model training and evaluation.

  • Implement and optimize machine learning algorithms using programming languages such as Python and relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).

  • Conduct experiments, analyze results, and iteratively refine models to improve performance and accuracy.

  • Collaborate with senior applied scientists and engineers to integrate models into existing products and platforms.

  • Document research findings, model architectures, and implementation details clearly and concisely.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning research.

  • Present findings and progress to internal teams.


About You:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.

  • Strong foundational understanding of machine learning principles, algorithms, and statistical methods.

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used for machine learning (e.g., Python).

  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras is a plus.

  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).

  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is beneficial but not required.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Prior internship experience in applied science or data science is a plus.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $50.00 CAD - $60.00 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
