Summary:
Thomson Reuters U.S. Inc. is seeking a motivated and talented Applied Scientist Intern to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on real-world problems, gain practical experience, and collaborate with experienced scientists and engineers.
About the Role:
Assist in the research, design, and development of machine learning models and algorithms for various applications, including natural language processing, information retrieval, and data analysis.
Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets to prepare them for model training and evaluation.
Implement and optimize machine learning algorithms using programming languages such as Python and relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
Conduct experiments, analyze results, and iteratively refine models to improve performance and accuracy.
Collaborate with senior applied scientists and engineers to integrate models into existing products and platforms.
Document research findings, model architectures, and implementation details clearly and concisely.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning research.
Present findings and progress to internal teams.
About You:
Currently pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
Strong foundational understanding of machine learning principles, algorithms, and statistical methods.
Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used for machine learning (e.g., Python).
Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras is a plus.
Experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).
Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is beneficial but not required.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Prior internship experience in applied science or data science is a plus.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $50.00 CAD - $60.00 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.About Us
