Data Scientist I – Vrbo AnalyticsJoin Vrbo Analytics at Expedia Group and use the power of data to shape how millions of travelers discover and book their stays. As a Data Scientist I, you’ll partner with teams across the business to turn complex datasets into clear insights, experiments, and models that drive brand growth and smarter decisions.
Introduction to the TeamThe Vrbo Analytics team uses the power of data to drive growth, deepen our understanding of customers, and enable Vrbo’s leadership to make smart, timely, and data-driven business decisions. We measure and improve brand performance by identifying high-impact opportunities and guiding strategic investment decisions.
We partner with stakeholders across Strategy, Product, Operations, Supply, Marketing, Customer Service, and Global Markets. The variety of business questions means you will quickly become familiar with new business contexts, datasets, and metrics.
As a Data Scientist I, you’ll join a collaborative and curious team that values transparency, continuous learning, and data-driven storytelling. What You’ll DoApply analytics principles and playbooks to solve business problems with guidance.
Extract, transform, and analyze data from multiple sources to build models and generate insights.
Design and execute experiments (e.g., A/B tests, causal impact studies) to evaluate business strategies.
Build and interpret models such as linear/logistic regression and clustering, and understand their assumptions and applications.
Create clear, inclusive visualizations and dashboards that communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborate with stakeholders to refine project goals, iterate on solutions, and deliver impactful recommendations.
Write efficient, reproducible code and documentation using tools such as GitHub and Confluence.
Empower stakeholders through training and enablement on analytics tools and dashboards.
Demonstrate initiative in learning new modeling techniques and applying them to current projects.
Contribute to a culture of peer review, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
0–1+ years as a Bachelor’s/Master’s graduate, and/or industry experience, and/or completed data apprenticeships/certifications.
Demonstrated experience using data in a previous role (for example, building dashboards or reports that provided insights to stakeholders, or building and maintaining a data science project/product in production environments).
Demonstrable intermediate-level experience in SQL, Python, R, or similar tools for data analysis and visualization.
Understanding of descriptive statistics, probability theory, and statistical testing.
Demonstrable beginner-level experience with data modeling techniques and experiment design.
Familiarity with big data challenges and performance optimization.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with an inquisitive mindset.
Effective communication and storytelling abilities.
Business acumen and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Collaborative mindset and openness to feedback.
Commitment to inclusive design and accessibility in data visualization.
