Job Description

In a context of constantly evolving health policies at the Belgian, European, and international levels, AbbVie is seeking a Government Affairs Manager to lead its advocacy strategy for the Belgium–Luxembourg affiliate. In this role, you will contribute to AbbVie’s mission to be a trusted partner in health policy and to offer innovative and sustainable healthcare solutions to address key patient health challenges. You will establish yourself as an influential leader in public affairs across Belgium and Luxembourg.

Major Responsibilities

STRATEGY

  • Identify and prioritize Belgian political issues impacting AbbVie's activities and lead the development and implementation of corresponding advocacy strategies and tactics.
  • Maintain and expand the network of policymakers through regular in-field contact to exchange information and improve patient care for those receiving our therapies in Belgium and Luxembourg. 

TRADE ASSOCIATIONS

  • Represent AbbVie in relevant working groups within AbbVie BeLux trade associations and successfully advocate for AbbVie policy priorities.
  • Gather, analyze and interpret trade association intelligence, positions and communicate priority issues to the board of directors.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain a network of key policy contacts in Belgium, particularly at the Federal and EU levels.
  • Actively develop and maintain key industry relationships and professional networks.

POLICY DEVELOPMENT

  • Monitor legislative changes and provide robust assessments of potential impact of political proposals on the affiliate.
  • Represent the BeLux affiliate within internal AbbVie policy strategy development activities.

PRODUCT-RELATED ADVOCACY

  • In collaboration with area‑level teams, ensure the development and effective execution of government affairs strategies to support affiliate therapy area and above brand advocacy strategies.
  • In collaboration with brand teams, support product-related advocacy activities in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree (preferred) in Business, Health Policy, Public Administration, or related.

  • Strong experience in government affairs or policy (e.g. in-house, trade association, consulting firm).

  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare policies and the pharmaceutical sector.

  • Strong political network.

  • Demonstrated successful advocacy project management with policymakers.

  • Management of complex internal and external strategic projects.

SKILLS

  • A deep interest in access to innovative treatments for patients.

  • Proven ability to design and execute complex government affairs strategies.

  • A strong interest and expertise in international health issues, such as MFN, tariffs, clawback, etc.

  • Superior ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
