Join us to make a significant impact and grow your career within a world-class engineering organization at the forefront of financial technology.

Team Overview:

This position is part of the Platform Automation group within Global Compute. Our team is dedicated to designing, developing, and implementing robust automation solutions that streamline infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, operational workflows, and overall platform management across Citi's global technology footprint. We empower development teams by providing self-service capabilities and reducing manual toil, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and reliability for critical enterprise systems.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Full Stack Developer with a strong specialization in Automation Platform Engineering (Ansible/Chef/Converge) to join our innovative technology team at Citi. The ideal candidate will have 8-10+ years of progressive experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing, developing, and implementing robust, scalable, and secure automation platforms across the full software stack. This role will be pivotal in driving efficiency, improving operational resilience, and enhancing the overall quality of our critical financial applications and infrastructure through expert application and strategic implementation of configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, or Ansible Converge within the Global Compute environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Full Stack Platform Development: Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of automation platforms, tools, and services using modern full-stack technologies (front-end, back-end, databases, APIs).
  • Automation Platform Architecture & Implementation: Lead the architecture and implementation of the core automation platform primarily using Ansible, Chef, or Ansible Converge. Develop, standardize, and maintain the framework for automation content (e.g., Ansible playbooks, Chef cookbooks/recipes, Converge profiles).
  • Automation Strategy & Optimization: Drive the adoption and implementation of automation best practices throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and operational processes within Global Compute. This includes building automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code solutions, and self-service automation portals, leveraging deep expertise in configuration management tools.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and code reviews to junior and mid-level developers within the Platform Automation group. Champion architectural best practices, coding standards, and maintain high-quality, maintainable codebases for automation tools and platforms.
  • System & Infrastructure Integration: Design and implement integrations between the automation platform and various internal systems (e.g., CMDB, ITSM, monitoring solutions) and core infrastructure components (e.g., private cloud platforms, virtualization, networking, security services) to enable seamless data flow and process automation.
  • Platform Lifecycle & Compliance: Manage the configuration and lifecycle of the automation platform's components, including master servers, agents, and repositories. Ensure the platform adheres to Citi's strict security standards, compliance regulations, and auditing requirements for a financial services environment.
  • Performance & Scalability Optimization: Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues across automation platforms and their integrations, focusing on creating highly efficient and resilient solutions for large-scale enterprise use.
  • Problem Solving & Innovation: Act as a subject matter expert, diagnosing complex technical issues related to automation and infrastructure, and proposing innovative solutions. Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for the automation platform. Research and evaluate new automation technologies and tools to enhance Global Compute capabilities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with infrastructure engineers, application development teams, product owners, and other stakeholders to translate platform and operational requirements into technical automation solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 8-10+ years of hands-on experience in Full Stack Software Development, with a significant focus (at least 6 years) on infrastructure automation platforms, particularly with deep expertise in Ansible, Chef, or Converge.

  • Automation & DevOps:
    • Deep expertise and hands-on experience with either Ansible (core, Tower/AWX), Chef (Server, Workstation, Habitat), or Ansible Converge as primary automation platforms.
    • Extensive experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, ArgoCD).
    • Proficiency in scripting for automation (Bash, Python, Ruby, PowerShell).
    • Strong expertise with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet) for managing infrastructure in a large enterprise.
    • Experience with automated testing methodologies and tools for platform components.
  • Cloud Platforms & Virtualization: Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift) and/or on-premise virtualization concepts and APIs (e.g., VMWare) for deploying and managing applications and infrastructure.
