Job Description

The role will be reporting into Medical Lead for eyecare and responsible for: 

  • Provide in-field scientific and technical leadership; build professional relationships with thought leaders and external experts.
  • Ensure a strong medical/scientific presence by facilitating research and educational initiatives; support requests for medical/scientific info on AbbVie products or therapeutic areas.
  • Support internal teams (sales, marketing, Affiliate Brand Team) with scientific updates; work collaboratively while retaining functional independence.
  • Assist with initiation, oversight, and follow-up of clinical studies and medical projects within the therapeutic area (including phase IV/post-marketing activities) in compliance with laws and SOPs.
  • Act as contact point for thought leaders to facilitate investigator-initiated study ideas and requests.
  • Serve as contact within Medical Affairs for thought leaders and external experts; satisfy their needs for scientific knowledge on the therapeutic area and AbbVie medicines.
  • Deliver credible scientific presentations to physicians (focus on Tier 1/2 thought leaders).
  • Participate in selecting potential research/educational/advisory collaborators, ensuring scientific/educational integrity.
  • Facilitate medical/scientific field intelligence and share insights with the company as appropriate.
  • Attend scientific meetings/conferences and develop summaries of key data for AbbVie’s strategic priorities.
  • Assist physicians with special requests for access to AbbVie medicines (e.g., compassionate use), adhering to regulations.
  • Support key thought leaders and internal teams with publication efforts of scientific/medical interest.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, codes of conduct, and company policies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline (Ophthalmology preferred); minimum requirement is a master's degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years as a Senior MSL, ideally with a proven track record of working across multiple indications or dual therapeutic areas.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical/medical devices industry, ideally in field-based medical liaison or advisor role for the therapeutic area.
  • Solid knowledge of the pharmaceutical environment and Medical Affairs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical research methods and related regulatory controls.
  • Ability to learn new subject areas/environments.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication/presentation skills; proven collaborative relationship-building with thought leaders and healthcare decision makers.
  • Good understanding of written/oral English (desirable).
  • High customer orientation.
  • Strong commitment to compliance, scientific quality, and integrity.
