About the team
Zillow is building a world-class creative organization that shapes Brand, B2C, and B2B communications across all customer touchpoints in the U.S. We first brought transparency to real estate 15+ years ago by allowing buyers and sellers to see the value of every home, and we’re continuing to reinvent how people move by making it easier to get into their next home, whether they are buying or renting. Our in-house creative teams, including StudioZ, deliver relevant, engaging experiences for customers and partners by deeply understanding the business and creating compelling ideas and content across integrated campaigns, channels, activations, and experiences.
About the role
Zillow is seeking a Photo Editor to join its growing in-house agency, StudioZ. As part of a small, highly collaborative photo team, this role blends creative photo editing with production rigor and detail-focused workflow management. In addition to curating and editing imagery, this role maintains and evolves the systems that support image sourcing, rights compliance, DAM integrity, and efficient cross-team collaboration. You will partner closely with creative, production, marketing, and external teams—anticipating needs, identifying potential challenges early, and helping work move forward smoothly and efficiently.
Success in this role benefits from the ability to build trust, navigate a wide range of working styles, and collaborate productively with diverse stakeholders while keeping projects aligned, organized, and on track. This is a great opportunity for a detail-driven photo editor who thrives in multi-faceted production environments, enjoys owning systems and processes, and brings equal passion to image quality, rights management, and operational excellence.
You Will Get To
Curate, edit, and sequence imagery that tells Zillow’s brand story across all customer touchpoints, including cropping, retouching, and color correction in line with brand standards.
Review photography from external shoots for aesthetics, sequencing, narrative, and intended usage, and conduct in-depth image research across stock, commissioned, UGC, and emerging channels while ensuring rights and usage compliance.
Draw on your knowledge of photographers, stock agencies, and UGC platforms to identify and license new photography sources, with opportunities to support on-set production for larger campaigns.
Lead hands-on image rights tracking, licensing compliance, and usage governance within DAM systems, ensuring images are correctly licensed, documented, restricted, expired, or archived according to legal and usage terms.
Collaborate to evolve DAM processes, metadata standards, naming conventions, and organizational systems, serving as a subject-matter expert on image rights management and DAM best practices across teams.
Define, document, and sustain photo workflows that enable clear prioritization, visibility, and on-time delivery across multiple concurrent projects, reducing risk and supporting cross-functional collaboration.
Partner directly with internal teams and external advertising agencies, leveraging your understanding of agency workflows, timelines, and deliverables to ensure efficient collaboration and high-quality output.
Apply an understanding of U.S. real estate markets and the home-buying journey to inform image storytelling, while exploring AI-assisted tools and emerging photography trends to improve research, editing, rights tracking, and workflow efficiency.
In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
Who you are
3–5+ years of photo editing and image research experience with a consumer brand, editorial publication, or advertising agency, supported by a strong portfolio of visual storytelling work.
Bachelor’s degree in Photography or a related visual field, or equivalent professional experience, with a strong foundation in both the technical and creative aspects of photography.
Strong visual sensibility and demonstrated ability to shape cohesive, compelling visual narratives through image selection, sequencing, and editing, supported by proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
Hands-on experience managing image rights, licensing, contracts, and usage compliance within DAM systems, plus strong working knowledge of U.S.-focused image licensing, copyright law, and usage restrictions.
Solid understanding of photographic principles (composition, lighting, color, perspective, storytelling) and the ability to apply them in both editorial and commercial contexts.
Experience in agency or large-scale production environments, with a strong understanding of production schedules, dependencies, creative reviews, and client-style feedback cycles, and the ability to keep work moving efficiently while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external agencies.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple projects and complex workstreams at once, while working proactively across cross-functional teams and adapting to different working styles.
Hands-on experience with photo production, including working with photographers or photo shoots, and familiarity with stock agencies and advanced image research techniques.
