The role
The Training Design Manager is responsible to the T31 Programme Manager for the management and direction of a team of courseware designers (Permanent, Contractor and Sub-Contractor staff) to produce Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) compliant documentation for our customer within a standardised design process.
To lead the development of a training design team in the development of training courseware through the analysis, design, maintenance, review and production of DSAT Documentation & use of DSAT processes for our customer’s training. Lead a team to deliver outputs against timelines and manage complex data and relationships to deliver comprehensive training solutions.
The role will require strong management and communication skills and the ability to work with a wider team of subject matter experts (SME) to coordinate the gathering of necessary technical data, the integration of media into training and courses and the delivery of courseware to training deliverers across a range of different delivery sites.
Main duties will include:
- Lead the work of a team responsible for the analysis, design, maintenance, review and production of DSAT Documentation & processes for our Customer’s training sites and organisations.
- The functional direction of other courseware designers to produce DSAT compliant documentation.
- Producing, maintaining and/or updating Training Design from: Formal Training Statement (FTS) (including the Training Performance Statement (TPS), Training Objectives (TOs), Workplace Training Statement (WTS) and Residual Training Gap Statement (RTGS) to delivery of Assessment Strategy (AStrat) and Assessment Specification (ASpec), Learning Specification (LSpec) Training Authorisation Document (TrAD) in DSAT compliant course templates so that they adequately and accurately reflect the Authority’s requirement.
- Interviewing SME to collate required data Participate in internal workshops to discuss and agree findings from analysis.
- Coordinate team working and manage workflow demands across a number of parallel development work streams.
- Work closely with other SME within the team to define and deliver the training solution.
- Work with the customer’s coordinating bodies to collaboratively develop and deliver training solution courseware.
- The upkeep, update and revalidation of course syllabi and standards, trainer competence, qualification and experience requirements.
- Conducting the upkeep, update and revalidation of course information, including but not limited to, course size limits, health and safety, relevant rules and regulations, course length and required support and resources.
- Conducting and maintain Training Design in response to new training requirements, including those arising from New Capabilities, to ensure that training satisfies operational / workplace performance requirements, provides the design output requirements required by the Customer and is kept up-to-date.
- Updating Training Design materials to incorporate relevant recommendations and feedback from internal and external assurance, to ensure that training remains up-to-date and satisfies operational/workplace performance requirements.
- Identifying opportunities to provide accreditation for new and/or amended training as designed, and/or any amendments or implications for existing accreditations following Training Design changes.
- Conducting Training Design Reviews of all training courses at least every three (3) years and the maintenance and update of the design of training courses to ensure that such training courses are up to-date and that they satisfy relevant operational / workplace performance requirements.
- Be ‘Responsible for championing and fostering a culture of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance and continuous improvement’.
- Any other duties required to complete the T31 Training Service.
Essential:
- Excellent communication skills at all levels both internally and within the customer organisation
- Experience in the development and delivery environment and have contributed to the design of significant training courses.
- A good working knowledge of the training design and development processes for training media
- Experienced and capable of working within a team
Desirable:
- Experience in the use of programme management tools and applications
- Training and/or Instructional Design Detailed knowledge and practical experience of: UK Ministry of Defence procedures and policies Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT)
