Director, Software Development Engineering:

The Supply Partner Experience (SPX) technology organization builds the platforms and tools that help our lodging partners—hotels, vacation rentals, and other property managers—succeed on Expedia Group’s two‑sided marketplace. The team owns core partner experiences in Expedia Partner Central and the Vrbo dashboard, including how partners manage their rates and availability, optimize content and merchandising, communicate with travelers, and service reservations across brands.

We are investing heavily in performance, reliability, and platform modernization, while introducing AI‑powered coaching and assistant experiences that make day‑to‑day partner work simpler and more automated—so partners can spend less time in tools and more time growing their business with Expedia Group.

In this role, you will:

  • Define and drive the technical strategy, architectural direction, and long-term roadmap for multiple engineering teams delivering complex, distributed software systems and services.

  • Lead, grow, and develop high-performing engineering managers and senior engineers, establishing clear expectations, empowering decision-making, and building an inclusive, accountable, and collaborative culture.

  • Own end-to-end delivery for a portfolio of services and platforms, ensuring high availability, reliability, scalability, and security through strong system design, API design, data modeling, and operational excellence practices.

  • Partner closely with Product, Data, and business stakeholders to translate customer and business needs into technical outcomes, using data and experimentation to guide prioritization and investment decisions across teams.

  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, including code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, and incident management, while continuously improving productivity, safety, and risk management, including how teams integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions.

  • Drive technical innovation and reusability across domains, enabling teams to leverage shared platforms and patterns, and apply familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, and workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products to deliver differentiated customer and partner experiences at scale.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level; Technical Degree Preferred; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience and 5+ years of people management experience.

  • Experience leading multiple software development engineering teams or an engineering organization delivering large-scale, distributed systems, including ownership of several services or platforms within a broader domain.

  • Proven track record of managing and developing engineering managers and senior engineers, with responsibility for hiring, performance, coaching, and career growth.

  • Demonstrated expertise in system design, API design, and data modeling for high-traffic, highly available, and secure services, including strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering best practices.

  • Experience driving end-to-end delivery and operations, including observability, incident management, on-call practices, and continuous improvement of service health and performance.

  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, with the ability to ensure teams safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes within their services and platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience setting and executing multi-year technical strategy for a portfolio of services or a significant product domain, including major architectural evolution, re-platforming, or modernization initiatives.

  • Demonstrated success operating complex, distributed systems at global or enterprise scale, including strong practices around resilience engineering, capacity planning, and cost optimization.

  • Track record of leading architectural design reviews and technical governance across multiple teams, ensuring coherent system design, well-defined APIs, robust data models, and effective integration patterns.

  • Proven ability to drive data-informed engineering decisions, leveraging telemetry, experimentation, and product analytics to improve performance, reliability, and customer outcomes.

  • Advanced experience with AI/ML‑enabled architectures or platforms in production environments, including setting guardrails, governance, and best practices so teams can safely integrate, monitor, and iterate on AI‑driven capabilities within their services, including mentoring leaders and teams on pragmatic, safe use of AI/ML in customer-facing and developer productivity scenarios.
