Purpose of the Role
As a Senior Technician (Panel Routing) at Collins Aerospace, you will play a critical role in the operation of our state-of-the-art CNC router machining centers. You’ll be responsible for machine setup, CNC program creation, and the production of complex aerospace component parts. Your contributions will directly support the manufacturing of advanced aircraft interiors while ensuring precision, quality, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup: Efficiently and accurately prepare CNC router machining centers for production runs, ensuring optimal setup for low-batch, high-mix production.
- CNC Programming: Create, edit, and nest CNC programs, optimizing for production efficiency and quality.
- Production Operations: Operate CNC routers to meet production goals while ensuring all parts meet stringent quality standards.
- Quality Control: Self-inspect components using appropriate inspection tools to maintain high-quality output.
- Maintenance & Support: Perform routine Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and collaborate with the team to identify and resolve any production issues or defects.
- Continuous Improvement: Support the implementation of lean manufacturing techniques and process improvements to drive operational excellence.
- Documentation & SOPs: Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and training documentation.
- Compliance & Housekeeping: Adhere to all company safety, environmental, and compliance guidelines, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Required Skills and Experience
- CNC/NC Qualifications: City and Guilds or at least 5 years of relevant CNC machining experience in a precision engineering environment.
- CNC Router Expertise: Proven experience operating and setting up CNC router machining centers.
- Programming Software: Familiarity with software such as Mastercam, NX, Jetcam, or similar packages.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of machine tooling, inspection measuring equipment, and the ability to read complex engineering drawings.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and precision in machining parts to required quality standards.
- EH&S Awareness: A strong commitment to safety and environmental standards in a manufacturing environment.
- Autonomous Worker: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production and quality goals.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with the team.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Microsoft Office: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Lean Manufacturing: Experience with lean techniques to optimize production and reduce waste.
- Process Improvement: Experience leading or contributing to projects aimed at process improvements.
