Job Details

Are you an experienced, passionate pioneer in technology who wants to work in a collaborative environment? As an experienced COBOL AS400 developer you will have the ability to share new ideas and collaborate on projects as a consultant without the extensive demands of travel. If so, consider an opportunity with Deloitte under our Project Delivery Talent Model. Project Delivery Model (PDM) is a talent model that is tailored specifically for long-term, onsite client service delivery.

Recruiting for this role ends on 03/31/2026.

Work you'll do/Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain IBM i applications using COBOL (often ILE COBOL) to support core business processes (e.g., order-to-cash, billing, claims, inventory).
  • Design and update DB2 for i data structures (physical/logical files, tables, indexes) and write embedded SQL or native I/O for data access.
  • Build and enhance batch processing (end-of-day cycles, billing runs, financial postings), including job scheduling and restart/recovery logic.
  • Develop online/interactive components such as green-screen (5250) applications (e.g., DDS display files) and/or integrate with modern UIs/services where applicable.
  • Maintain RPG/CL integrations where solutions are mixed-stack, and write CL (Control Language) scripts for job control, file management, and automation.
  • Debug, test, and troubleshoot production issues (analyze job logs/spool files, dumps, and DB2 locks; perform root-cause analysis and fixes).
  • Performance tuning for programs and SQL (optimize queries, reduce I/O, improve batch runtimes, manage commitment control/locking behavior).
  • Support interfaces and integrations (flat files, FTP/SFTP workflows, EDI, message queues, APIs via middleware) and ensure data validation/reconciliation.
  • Implement change management (version control, promotions across environments, impact analysis, rollbacks, release notes).
  • Ensure operational reliability (monitor batch windows, handle reruns, manage dependencies, update runbooks).
