Job Description

Trade Marketing at AbbVie has evolved significantly from an operational and tactical focused responsibility for select products to one requiring development of complex pharmacy and distribution strategies across the entire portfolio in both the specialty and retail pharmacy channels.  A key component of this evolution are the needs of stakeholders in the specialty pharmacy channel, in which AbbVie has a significant footprint of high-value brands supporting our Oncology portfolio.  These high-cost medications used to treat complex, chronic conditions often require special storage, handling and administration, and typically involve a significant degree of coordination with payers and HCPS, as well as dedication to patient education, monitoring and management.

The expectations of pharmacies in the health care ecosystem are quickly evolving as technologies drive exponential change and transform the future.  Many pharmacies are just beginning to embrace the technologies and customer service innovation, and as specialty pharmacies reinvent themselves to meet the evolving needs of their patients, the Director of Trade Strategy & Marketing will establish the vision and strategy for how AbbVie will partner with these key stakeholders to optimize the patient experience and grow our business now and in the future. Patients are also evolving, as are their needs and expectations of their experience at the pharmacy.  Whether it be a focus on convenience by experimenting with new, digital capabilities of their pharmacy, or seeking higher-touch clinical support models, these increasing patient demands put pressure on manufactures such as AbbVie to define our future specialty and retail pharmacy value propositions and identify stakeholders in the channel to partner with to navigate this complex environment.

The Director of Trade Strategy & Marketing – Oncology is responsible for leading a team that identifies business opportunities in the fast-evolving specialty pharmacy and distribution channel, then developing and implementing initiatives to partner with pharmacy and wholesaler stakeholders in support of patient onboarding and adherence to AbbVie products.  This role, supporting Venclexta, Elahere, Emrelis and pipeline products requires a high level of expertise in the pharmacy and distribution channel including a keen understanding of its complexities and challenges, coupled with experience developing strategic pharmacy partnerships and distribution models with an eye towards innovation.

Key job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Establish the vison and strategic framework to innovate and create best-in-class distribution and patient access models in both the specialty and retail channel
  • Ensure the execution of launch excellence in the Trade channel by overseeing the successful preparation of a diverse mix of stakeholders in order to drive key launches in Immunology.
  • Lead Trade Marketing team in the evaluation and recommendation of defined Purchase Discount strategies across Specialty brands.
  • Ensure the Trade Marketing team is positioned to serve as the lead, and executes at a high level in such capacity, in the cross-functional effort to manage product supply disruption.
  • Oversee the development of AbbVie’s strategy to partner with specialty pharmacies in their effort to accelerate digital connectivity with patients, leveraging technology to not only facilitate drug purchasing, but also manage patient touchpoints, enhancing the overall patient experience.
  • Establish the roadmap in order for the team to conduct an actionable segmentation of patients across our portfolio of specialty products to obtain valuable insights in how to effectively meet patient needs.
  • Synthesize complex, and sometimes incomplete, pharmacy data sets in order to inform key strategic decisions.
  • Manage relationships with senior level cross-functional partners such as Brand VPs, including leading the presentation of internal Trade QBRs to senior leaders.
  • Lead for Trade in partnership with Brand and Finance leadership ensuring collaboration around  Trade strategies and their impact on PLAN and LRP.
  • Lead for cultivating relationships with key external stakeholders in Trade channel, including Specialty pharmacies, vendors and other strategic partners
  • Partner with Market Access Strategy team to assess impact of and develop strategies to address government and/or payer policy changes on AbbVie’s portfolio of products, and lead related pharmacy mitigation initiatives.
  • Serve on launch Integrated Brand Teams and Joint Commercial Committees as subject matter expert to drive specialty pharmacy strategic alignment and business priorities.
  • Establish Trade Marketing culture by creating an inclusive environment that encourages synchronicity, agility, transparency and development.
  • Coach and develop direct reports in order to elevate their expertise in the trade channel and exposure across therapeutic areas while driving a culture of inclusion with an emphasis on professional development in order to retain, develop and attract talent
