The Colleague Services (CS) organization within the Colleague Experience Group (also known as Human Resources) at American Express plays a critical role in providing the best-in-class services, capabilities, data, and insights that enable a great colleague experience. The organization builds and evolves essential products and services to enable the Colleague Experience Group (CEG) and the business. The CS organization manages the ecosystem of CEG products, processes, platforms, applications, third party partners, colleague insights and reporting, and colleague-related risk, compliance, and governance.
The Colleague Insights Data Science team within Colleague Services is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead priority analytics for employee-focused use cases. As a key leader on the team, you will apply your expertise in machine learning, AI, and advanced quantitative analysis to explore large datasets, derive actionable insights, and influence strategic decisions in critical areas such as talent mobility, employee retention, recruitment, and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion initiatives.
We are looking for a candidate with strong statistical and quantitative skills, a deep understanding of business dynamics, and a passion for using data to tell compelling stories. Your ability to communicate insights clearly to business audiences will be critical, as will your drive to solve complex problems and innovate.

Key Responsibilities:

Define the opportunity for analytics; Identify or distill business needs into analytics workstream

Summarize findings and effectively communicate in a compelling way to senior leaders to drive business action

Make recommendations to partners for colleague metrics/data to help track CEG program effectiveness and development

Collaborate with CEG partners, Technology, and peer analytics team members to get things done, influence priorities and develop knowledge

Manage customer relationships and work as part of a cross-functional team to assess needs and translate them into strategic plans and data-driven solutions.

Gather, sanitize, and preprocess extensive datasets from various sources, and perform exploratory data analysis.

Construct and apply statistical models for data analysis, correlation identification, predictive modeling, and accurate forecasting.

Employ machine learning algorithms to construct models for various data-driven applications.
-
Identify pertinent features and process raw data to enhance model performance and predictive accuracy.
-
Apply data visualization tools and techniques to clearly communicate complex findings, employing effective storytelling methods.

Cooperate with cross-functional teams to comprehend business challenges and generate data-driven solutions.

Adhere to data governance guidelines, uphold data privacy and security standards, and align with applicable regulations.

Stay current with data science advancements, attend industry conferences, participate in training, and continually hone domain knowledge .

Lead, engage and develop a high-performing analyst/s and guide them to deliver superior business results.
Required Qualifications

Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related analytical field.

4–5 years of dynamic experience in quantitative analysis and statistical modeling to support business decisions.

Proficiency in statistical concepts such as distributions, regression, confidence intervals, correlation, significance, P-value, and T-tests.
-
Experience handling ambiguous and complex analytical tasks, including working with unstructured data.
-
Strong programming skills in Python, with proficiency in machine learning and deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
-
Solid understanding of database management with expertise in SQL or NoSQL databases.
-
Proficiency in Python and R for data analysis and modeling.
-
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
-
Strong SQL skills, with the ability to independently write efficient and accurate queries.

Ability to develop HR data expertise and produce modeling-ready datasets.

Quick learner with the ability to work under tight deadlines, demonstrating initiative and ownership.

Adaptability to shifting priorities and deadlines.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Capacity to handle multiple priorities and effectively manage work allocation.

Strong adaptability and willingness to learn and apply new technologies and methodologies.
Preferred Skills

Proven experience using analytics to solve business problems in complex organizations.

3+ years of programming experience in Python, R, SQL, or Hive.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
