The role involves collaboration across disciplines to ensure designs meet application, performance, reliability, durability, and serviceability standards. The Mechanical System Design Engineer communicates design intent, evaluates alternative concepts, and resolves product issues while supporting cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate field-based or Value Package Introduction (VPI) program issues, identify causes, recommend solutions, and document results with guidance from senior engineers.
- Apply processes like Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation, and use tools such as iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench to support design decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to communicate component and subsystem designs through design reviews, addressing design challenges and customer requirements.
- Support design decisions in areas such as concept selection and optimization for Product Preceding Technology (PPT), VPI, or Value Package Change Request (VPCR) initiatives.
- Lead problem resolution for moderately complex components, systems, or subsystems, gaining increasing technical expertise and independence as experience grows.
- Contribute to process and systems improvement, exhibit team influence, and coordinate work among technicians and temporary employees when required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Experience:
- 4 to 7 years of working experience, with a preference for candidates with experience in technical disciplines, including internships, co-op positions, or professional roles.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Creo tools preferred.
Competencies:
- Cross-Functional Design Integration: Translate stakeholder requirements into designs, communicate design capability through reviews.
- Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis: Create CAD models for system-level analyses like Dimensional Variation and Finite Element Analysis.
- Mechanical Systems Design: Deep understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative designs considering lifecycle and operational environments.
- Mechanical Design Specification: Develop complete specifications, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
- Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis: Utilize computational tools to predict product functionality at system, sub-system, and component levels.
- Product Platform Planning and Architecting: Design holistic product platforms, align with future market needs, and perform trade-off analyses.
