Job Details
As Manager, Data Platform, you will lead a team responsible for building, evolving, and operating Pismo’s core data platform capabilities (batch and streaming). Your mission is to ensure our data services are reliable, scalable, secure, and cost-efficient, enabling internal teams and partners to deliver high-quality data products at scale.
You will combine people leadership, technical direction, and cross-functional collaboration to drive platform excellence—balancing roadmap delivery with operational stability, quality, and continuous improvement.
What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities):
1) Lead and Grow a High-Performing Team
Lead, coach, and develop a team of data platform engineers—supporting technical growth, career progression, and performance.
Create a culture of ownership, quality, and operational excellence (e.g., postmortems, SLO discipline, and proactive improvements).
Provide timely feedback, remove blockers, and help the team deliver with high impact and predictability.
2) Own the Data Platform Roadmap & Execution
Define and execute the platform strategy and roadmap aligned with company priorities and partner needs.
Drive platform evolution across architecture, tooling, and developer experience—reducing complexity and technical debt.
Establish clear goals, success metrics, and service-level objectives (SLOs) for platform capabilities.
3) Build and Operate Reliable Data Services
Ensure the design and operation of high-performance pipelines and data services (batch and streaming) for large-scale workloads.
Own production operations for file- and event-based systems, including monitoring, incident response (on-call leadership), and continuous improvement to meet SLAs/SLOs.
Promote strong engineering practices: testing, security, observability, deployment automation, and well-defined interfaces.
4) Drive Quality, Governance, and Efficiency
Implement and improve processes for data quality, lineage, access control, and governance—ensuring trusted, auditable data.
Optimize cost and performance through right-sizing, workload tuning, storage/compute efficiency, and operational automation.
Introduce consistent patterns and standards for pipeline development, orchestration, and platform usage.
5) Collaborate Across the Organization
Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Data teams (e.g., data reliability engineers, software engineers, BI/analytics engineers, data scientists) to deliver end-to-end data products.
Communicate vision, roadmap, risks, and progress clearly to stakeholders at different levels of technical depth.
Lead cross-team initiatives (build vs. buy evaluations, platform migrations, major reliability improvements, and POCs).
This is a remote position. A remote position does not require job duties be performed within proximity of a Visa office location. Remote positions may be required to be present at a Visa office with scheduled notice. #LI-Remote
