Position Overview
The Supplier Master Data Specialist is a strategic, role responsible for the governance, optimization, and advanced use of supplier master data to support enterprise-wide supplier management and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) decision-making. Beyond ensuring data accuracy and compliance, this role leverages supplier data to generate insights that improve supplier performance, mitigate risk, optimize spend, and enable informed sourcing and payment strategies. The position serves as a trusted advisor to Procurement, Finance, and Compliance leaders on supplier data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities
Supplier Master Data Strategy & Governance
Own the end-to-end supplier master data domain across the Procure-to-Pay lifecycle
Define and evolve supplier master data governance frameworks, standards, and controls
Establish data ownership models, approval hierarchies, and escalation paths
Ensure ongoing compliance with audit, SOX, tax, regulatory, and fraud prevention requirements
Strategic Supplier Data Utilization
Analyze supplier master data to identify consolidation opportunities, supplier risk exposure, and redundancies
Provide insights on supplier payment terms, banking structures, geographic footprint, and legal entities to inform sourcing and contracting decisions
Support supplier segmentation models (strategic, preferred, transactional, high-risk) using master data attributes
Procure-to-Pay Leadership & Advisory
Advise Procurement, Accounts Payable, and Finance leadership on supplier data impacts to purchasing, invoicing, and cash flow
Lead complex supplier setup and change scenarios (mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, global rollouts)
Resolve high-risk or escalated supplier data issues with cross-functional stakeholders
Reporting, Analytics & Decision Support
Design and deliver supplier master data dashboards and reporting for leadership
Translate supplier data into actionable insights related to spend concentration, supplier risk, compliance gaps, and payment optimization
Partner with Finance to support working capital initiatives and payment strategy analysis
Transformation & Continuous Improvement
Lead supplier master data components of P2P transformation initiatives, including ERP implementations, system integrations, and automation
Evaluate and implement tools for supplier onboarding, data validation, and master data management
Establish and maintain SOPs, controls, and training materials across global teams
Minimum Qualifications
3 to 5 years of experience in Supplier certification specialist
Operationally-focused Professional role, requiring experience OR analytical advisor role still developing higher-level expertise.
Solve a range of problems of mild-to-moderate complexity and scope by analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures.
Exercise judgement within defined guidelines or known precedents.
Seek guidance on unusual situations or circumstances where guidelines are unclear.
Receive a moderate level of guidance and direction, with little or no direction day-to-day assignments.
Work is typically reviewed by a more experienced team member before it is provided to senior leaders.
A common career stabilization point (AKA the “full-contributor” level) for operationally-focused roles, whereas analytical advisor roles at this level are building knowledge of the subject-matter area, function/BU, company, products, and customers.
