SOLIDWORKS – “Authentic Design Experience” SOLIDWORKS is our set of 3D CAD design, simulation, data management, and collaboration tools.

The team is looking for an AI Software Engineer who will be located in Waltham, MA, and who will work with the AI Applications team to develop new and innovative technology in the field of machine learning and generative AI for the SOLIDWORKS family of products.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building and shipping production-grade agentic AI systems. You will work directly with the Director of AI Applications on the design, development, and deployment of multi-agent pipelines, LLM-integrated tooling, and natural language–to–CAD execution workflows embedded in the SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE user experience. The goal is to enable industrial & world-class Generative Experiences & Virtual Companions competencies.

Qualifications & Experience:

·    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering with 2-3 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 0-2 years, or a closely related technical field 

• 0–2 years of professional software development experience, with hands-on exposure to AI or ML systems
• Proficiency in Python; familiarity with C# or willingness to ramp quickly
• Experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications, including RAG pipelines, semantic search, and embedding-based retrieval
• Familiarity with vector databases (pgvector, Chroma DB, or similar) and hybrid search techniques
• Experience with containerized deployment using Docker and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, GitHub Actions, or equivalent)
• Solid understanding of REST API design, async architectures, and integration patterns
• Strong software engineering fundamentals: state management, error handling, and modular design
• Excellent written and spoken English with strong communication and collaboration skills
• Self-directed and motivated — comfortable learning in fast-moving, emerging technology spaces

Nice to have:

• Experience with agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar tool-calling standards
• Familiarity with local LLM inference tools (Ollama or equivalent) and vision/multimodal models
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) including serverless and managed container services
• Background in NLP, text classification, or document intelligence pipelines
• Exposure to monitoring and observability tooling: Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, or similar
• Background in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Fusion 360, or similar)
• Exposure to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform or enterprise PLM systems
• Familiarity with Pydantic, FastAPI, and modern Python typing patterns
• Prior work on deployed, production AI systems beyond academic or demo projects
