Introduction to the Team:

We're the Insurance team at Expedia Group, and we're on a mission to redefine how travelers experience peace of mind during their journeys. Whether it's trip protection, flight cancellations, or medical emergencies abroad, our goal is to deliver seamless, reliable, and intelligent insurance experiences across Expedia's suite of brands (like Expedia.com, Vrbo, Hotels.com, and more).
We work closely with a variety of insurance suppliers to onboard their products into our systems and make them available to customers across multiple booking journeys — during checkout, post-purchase, and even through trip management pages. Our team ensures the right protection is offered at the right time, making travel safer and more confident for millions of users.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust machine learning systems, including hands-on work across model development, feature engineering, and deployment pipelines.

  • Lead technical architecture, system design (including low-level design), API design, and data modeling to deliver high-quality ML solutions.

  • Actively participate in all phases of the end-to-end ML model lifecycle (includes feature engineering, model training, model scoring, model validation) for enterprise applications projects to tackle sophisticated business problems in production environments

  • Collaborate with global team of data scientists, administrators, data analysts, data engineers, and data architects on production systems and applications

  • Apply best practices for ML development, including code quality, testing, and continuous integration, ensuring operational excellence at scale.

  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, with a focus on secure and reliable deployments.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and expertise across multiple technical domains, enabling effective problem-solving and innovation in diverse environments.

  • Participate in code reviews to assess overall code quality and flexibility.

  • Recommends advancements, innovations and changes in technologies (specifically relating to machine learning engineering, ML platforms, DS models, enterprise information management, business intelligence and data science).

  • Compiles and reports on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) to larger groups through written or oral means.

Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • Solid Coding and Problem Solving skills in Java/Python/Scala & Data Structures

  • Hands-on experience with OOAD, design patterns, SQL and NoSQL

  • Experience in developing and deploying Batch and Real Time Inferencing applications.

  • Proven ownership and delivery of ML features and services spanning multiple areas, including model training, inference, and integration with production systems.

  • Has a strong command with Spark and how map-reduce works, how to evaluate, optimize, and debug Spark applications.

  • Has a strong command with machine learning libraries such as PyTorch and Tensorflow and know common integration patterns for serving inference with them.

  • Strong technical skills in machine learning engineering, including proficiency with modern frameworks, system design, API development, and data modelling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and operating large-scale, distributed ML systems within complex technical environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive architecture improvements and provide technical leadership within your team or domain.

  • Experience with BentoML and working knowledge of gRPC-based services to achieve low-latency online inference is a plus, as is understanding of real-time bidding and programmatic auction systems.

  • Strong focus on operational excellence, including monitoring, automation, and incident response for critical ML services

  • Experience with workflow orchestration and data pipelines using tools such as Airflow or Flyte, and some exposure to data engineering and pipeline management with technologies like Spark.

  • Advanced experience with integrating and optimizing AI/ML-enabled solutions within machine learning architectures.
