Application Technician

Join our dynamic technical support team where you'll tackle high-complexity customer problems, work across multiple teams to deliver solutions, and mentor fellow analysts. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge applications and systems while contributing to the continuous improvement of our products and services. You'll be at the intersection of customer advocacy and technical excellence, ensuring our clients maximize value from our solutions.

About the Role

In this opportunity as a Application Technician, you will:

  • Analyze and resolve customer problems of high complexity, assessing scope of impact, mitigating customer issues, and recommending and executing effective workarounds

  • Drive problem resolution by identifying options, initiating action, engaging appropriate stakeholders, and escalating issues when required

  • Provide expert guidance and training to users on application systems' functionality, correct operation, constraints, and troubleshooting user faults

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with application development teams, content teams, customer service, and software/hardware support teams to deliver comprehensive solutions

  • Monitor and maintain system health by proactively monitoring production and nonproduction environments and/or applications

  • Contribute technical expertise by conducting root cause analysis, providing input for technical plans and solutions, and offering guidance to less experienced analysts

  • Manage projects and priorities by participating in planning sessions, working on small complex projects requiring specialized expertise, and preparing status updates while managing competing priorities

About You

You're a fit for the role of Application Technician if you have the following required qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Proven experience in customer-facing technical support or application support roles

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and effectively escalate issues when appropriate

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Experience monitoring systems/applications and conducting root cause analysis

  • Commitment to following defined standards and best practices while continuously sharing knowledge with team members

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience developing, configuring, or supporting tools for system monitoring and/or troubleshooting

  • Software development experience with ability to develop application modules using disciplined software development processes

  • Experience with unit testing and implementing application modules in mainframe or client/server environments

  • Background in providing training or mentoring to junior team members

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $67,600 CAD - $117,600 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
