Job Description

At Visa, the Finance Technology organization empowers revenue operations, pricing strategy, and controllership teams by delivering innovative, next‑generation software solutions. We explore emerging technologies, leverage AI, run proofs of concept, and design scalable systems that streamline complex financial processes. From hands‑on development and integration to quality assurance and production support, we own the full engineering lifecycle. Partnering closely with Finance and Operations leaders, we deliver high‑impact custom applications and implement industry‑leading software that keeps Visa’s revenue ecosystem running with precision and scale. If you’re energized by tackling large‑scale enterprise challenges and driving innovation in a high‑impact domain, this is the place to make a meaningful mark.

The Engineering Director will lead a high‑performing software engineering team responsible for building, modernizing, and supporting Visa’s revenue‑related enterprise applications. This leader will define technical direction, champion the adoption of AI‑driven engineering practices, own architectural strategy, elevate engineering standards, and guide the delivery of secure, scalable, and resilient systems that underpin critical financial and operational processes across the company.

In this role, you will bring deep technical and functional expertise, with a strong focus on leveraging AI both to accelerate development and to design intelligent solutions for complex business needs. You will motivate the team to experiment, innovate, and apply AI across the engineering lifecycle. You should thrive in a fast‑paced environment, enjoy working across diverse technologies, and be energized by driving automation, efficiency, and enterprise‑wide impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the technical and architectural strategy for Visa’s revenue‑related enterprise applications, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and resiliency.
  • Drive proofs of concepts and evaluate emerging/open‑source technologies, making informed recommendations and platform decisions that align with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Provide deep technical leadership in application design, including reviewing and guiding functional designs, system architectures, API patterns, and integration strategies.
  • Guide teams in designing robust data models and repositories for both transactional and analytical workloads, and review data‑related designs for quality and scalability.
  • Ensure delivery of high‑quality, production‑ready software through strong engineering best practices, CI/CD pipelines, test automation, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Champion the use of AI across the engineering lifecycle, including AI‑assisted coding, automated testing, code generation, and productivity‑enhancing development workflows.
  • Lead the end‑to‑end design and delivery of Generative AI and ML‑based applications, from concept and prototyping through production deployment and ongoing optimization.
  • Develop, mentor, and grow engineering talent, elevating skillsets in AI, cloud, architecture, and modern engineering practices, while providing consistent performance management.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement, encouraging teams to explore new technologies and evolve engineering standards.
  • Lead cross‑functional planning and execution, partnering with Finance, Pricing, Revenue Operations, Controllership, and Enterprise Technology teams to deliver complex multi‑team initiatives.
  • Manage business stakeholder expectations, ensuring clear communication of priorities, technical decisions, delivery timelines, and trade‑offs.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and dependencies, ensuring the reliability, availability, and compliance of mission‑critical financial applications.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Basic Qualifications:
10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree with 12+ years, or M.S. degree with 10+ years, of experience designing, developing, and managing complex, enterprise‑class, mission‑critical global application systems.
  • 5+ years leading software engineering teams, driving technical delivery, and managing diverse technology stacks.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring architects, engineers/developers, business process designers, and testing teams; fostering strong technical capability and professional growth.
  • Hands‑on experience creating software architecture, solution designs, and technical designs for large‑scale systems.
  • Strong engineering background with experience building and maintaining enterprise applications using open‑source technologies (e.g., Java, Python, ETL frameworks, Angular, Spring Boot).
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL and NoSQL stores like MongoDB; proven ability to design data models and repositories for transactional and analytical workloads.
  • Experience and passion for designing and building AI/ML solutions and intelligent agents using technologies such as Python, LangChain, AutoGen, NLP frameworks, vector databases, and orchestration tools.
  • Practical experience developing generative‑AI and LLM‑based applications using platforms such as OpenAI/Azure OpenAI, including prompt engineering and model integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and enforce modern engineering best practices, drive automation throughout the SDLC, and cultivate a culture of high‑quality, scalable software delivery.
  • Proven expertise guiding teams to leverage AI tools—such as GitHub Copilot, Azure AI‑assisted development, and automated QA frameworks—to significantly improve engineering and QA productivity.
  • Domain knowledge in financial systems—pricing, rating, billing, accounts receivable, revenue recognition/reporting—is a strong plus.
  • Strong track record of delivering results through cross‑functional leadership, influence, and collaboration.
