PRIMARY FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE
• To lead medical advisors and/or MSLs and activities in responsible therapeutic areas. Set and execute Medical Affairs strategies for the responsible therapeutic areas.
• To set and deliver medical affairs strategies which generate, evaluate and communicate scientific evidence to support the needs of health care professionals and patients in covered therapeutic areas, in line with the strategic priorities of the brand and company, and all prevailing governance requirements.
• To make recommendations regarding staffing levels and structure for the team, and to plan and manage budget within prevailing finance guidance.
• To support the Korea medical director to build the organization, ensuring the medical department is fully integrated to support the strategy and affiliate business, while being functionally independent and operating within a culture of ethical and compliant behavior.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Fulfill the roles and responsibilities of medical advisor in Dermatology (Atopic Dermatitis is not included) therapeutic area.
• Ensure the development and execution of the annual medical affairs strategy and plans and contribution towards long range strategic plans for immunology portfolios, contributing scientific, technical & strategic expertise where relevant
• Leadership and line management responsibility. Build and manage the immunology medical affairs team(s), including setting responsibilities and goals, to ensure delivery of this plan whilst driving a culture of innovation and collaborative working approaches.
• Manage the assigned budget within prevailing financial guidance.
• Support the personal development of the team through individualized plans and their execution, including training to build capability, and maintain and develop technical and disease area expertise. Support career planning for team members.
• Drive a patient-focused, customer-centric approach in the activity of the responsible therapeutic areas. Provide medical support for and help develop and maintain professional and credible relationships with key external stakeholders. Ensure that field-based medical staff forge and maintain strong collaborative relationships with external experts relevant to their Therapeutic Areas. Build in-field medical capabilities.
• Ensure that the team provide timely technical and scientific support to cross-functional brand teams, HEOR/market access, sales force and other internal stakeholders as required to support business objectives whilst ensuring alignment and appropriate decision making based on current evidence, effective competitive intelligence, and best practice principles
• Provide strategic leadership of evidence generation planning and drive affiliate research studies and global GMA research projects in immunology therapeutic areas to meet the local needs for data in alignment with GMA strategies, Execute research activities in a scientific efficient and compliant manner
• Ensure that the team work collaboratively with the Clinical Operations team to optimize the implementation and delivery of development research.
• Review and approve promotional, non-promotional materials as a medical reviewer to ensure medical and scientific accuracy and adherence to applicable regulations and codes, and internal and external requirements
• Ensure compliance with all applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie’s policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced Degree (Medical degree or PhD) with relevant specialty, Immunology experience highly preferred
• Significant pharmaceutical industry medical affairs experience (more than 5 years - preferred)
• Clinical research experience or knowledge highly valued
• Management experience essential
• Strong knowledge and experience within portfolio area
• Proven leadership skills in a cross-functional team environment (minimum of 5 years experience as people leader)
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to interact at senior executive level, with internal and external stakeholders
• Highly developed strategic thinking, problem solving, multi-tasking and prioritisation skills
• Strong budget planning and management skills
