Product Manager III, Analytics Platform

Introduction to the Team:

We’re seeking a a Product Manager III to drive and support our Analytics Platform strategy, leading the evolution and delivery of cutting-edge analytics capabilities across our Expedia Group. You’ll combine strategic guidance with hands-on collaboration alongside engineering, analytics, and our partner teams to enhance our analytics platforms, drive adoption, and create significant business impact.

In this role, you'll be the Product leader focused on our core analytics platform components, including Starburst, Starrocks SQL Engines and other modern data technologies. You will ensure our analytics platform provides robust, reliable, and scalable capabilities that enable internal stakeholders and external users to efficiently access, explore, and leverage our data. We are looking for a Product Manager III that will Drive and support the Analytics Platform Strategy by leading end-to-end product development, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and championing product excellence and measurement

In this role, you will:

  • Own the SQL Engines vision and roadmap for the Analytics Platform, spanning Starburst, Druid, StarRocks, and adjacent technologies.

  • Understand the customer landscape and identify common analytical and serving needs across Expedia Group (e.g., interactive BI, high concurrency exploration, Realtime dashboards, sub second APIs).

  • Partner with senior stakeholders across Data & Analytics, Product, and Engineering to translate their needs into a clear, transparent roadmap for SQL engines and related platform capabilities.

  • Research new technologies, features and patterns in the query engine and OLAP ecosystem, and drive innovation through technical assessments, benchmarks, and proofs of concept.

  • Collect and refine functional and nonfunctional requirements (e.g., latency, concurrency, SLAs, cost, governance) from customers across the organization, ensuring they are clearly articulated and actionable.

  • Define and track key success metrics for SQL engines (e.g., adoption, query performance, reliability, cost efficiency, user satisfaction) and use them to inform prioritization and continuous improvement.

  • Own vendor and partner relationships (e.g., Starburst and other engine vendors): manage roadmaps, licensing and feature requests; coordinate joint troubleshooting and performance tuning; and ensure value for money.

  • Collaborate with Platform Engineering teams to align engine priorities with infrastructure, security, and operational capabilities, ensuring clear sequencing and tradeoff decisions.

  • Take a leading role in design discussions, challenging assumptions where needed, and advocating for simplicity, scalability, and longterm maintainability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years with a Bachelor’s degree, 3+ years with a Masters degree, or equivalent practical experience in product management, analytics, data, or BI platforms.

  • Strong data and technical background, particularly in SQL engines, OLAP databases or distributed query platforms.

  • Handson experience or deep familiarity with at least some of: Starburst / Trino / Presto, Apache Druid, StarRocks (or similar MPP / realtime OLAP engines).

  • Understanding of query performance, indexing, caching, partitioning, and cost/performance tradeoffs in largescale analytics environments.

  • Experience working with cloudbased data and analytics platforms (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, streaming platforms).

  • Proven ability to assemble business requirements and translate them into detailed, prioritized functional and nonfunctional specifications in an Agile setting, including clear Minimum Viable Products.

  • Demonstrated ownership of a product or major feature set within a service or multi-service BI or data platform, working with engineering teams on system design (including APIs and data modeling) and iterative delivery.

  • Proven ability to use data to inform decisions, including defining KPIs, analyzing product usage, and incorporating feedback from cross-functional stakeholders such as data engineers, analysts, and business partners.

  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including partnering with technical teams to ensure AI/ML‑enabled features are safely integrated and operated.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in large-scale data or BI platform environments, including working with complex data models, semantic layers, and APIs that support high-volume analytics and reporting across multiple domains.

  • Proven track record driving platform-wide improvements in reliability, performance, governance, and usability for BI or analytics tooling, including leading cross-team initiatives and influencing technical direction.

  • Ability to use data to prioritize investments and improve user outcomes and operational excellence.

  • Experience collaborating on AI/ML‑enabled BI capabilities (for example, natural language query, intelligent recommendations, or automated insights), with specific experience guiding responsible AI usage, safety, and explainability in analytics products.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
