- Approximately five years of credit or risk assessment experience, particularly in public finance sectors, or equivalent financial or educational experience
- Strong credit and analytical competence with proven ability to evaluate complex financial structures
- Experience with analysis of legal documentation and cash flow analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate clear and succinct credit views
- Ability to build strong professional relationships and represent Moody’s credibly with external and internal stakeholders
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, thoroughness and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Diligence, efficiency and strong sense of ownership with the ability to meet tight deadlines and produce high‑quality outcomes
- Adaptability and comfort working with a variety of technical tools and teams
- Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools can be used to improve processes and drive efficiency
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required in finance, real estate, economics, statistics, public policy, public finance or a related field
Master’s degree or JD preferred
Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse portfolio of municipal supported credits, including cash collateralized and credit enhanced housing transactions as well as municipal credits with bank support through letters of credit, guarantees and direct-pay enhancements
- Conduct rigorous legal and cash flow analysis and communicate clear, insightful credit perspectives to the market
- Collaborate with multiple teams across Moody’s public finance, including local government, higher education, health care, housing and others in assessing complex or unusual financing transactions
- Present credit findings and recommendations to rating committees regularly
- Build rapport with senior management teams and engage with investors and intermediaries to communicate key credit views
- Produce topical, transparent and forward‑looking research for rated organizations/transactions, sector‑wide themes and cross‑sector trends
- Collaborate across the organization on strategic projects and initiatives
- Maintain the highest levels of professional integrity, transparency and fairness in all interactions
- Engage in ongoing learning, demonstrating multicultural awareness and a commitment to growth
About the Team
Our Public Finance Group team is responsible for delivering high‑quality credit opinions and insights that support transparent and efficient markets & contribute to Moody’s reputation as a trusted source of credit expertise. By joining our team, you will be part of exciting work in public sector credit analysis across diverse communities & will leverage emerging AI tools that strengthen analytical depth, enhance workflow efficiency and support responsible innovation in our ratings processes.
For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $135,700.00-$196,750.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
