This position will report to our EnerSys Energy Systems business, which serves the telecom, cable broadband, industrial, renewable, and data center markets. Compensation Range: $58,200 To $73,000
Compensation may vary based on applicant's work experience, education level, skill set, and/or location.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Field Service Manager, the Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation and servicing of products, primarily associated with fiber optic and network equipment at customer locations. Ensuring customer satisfaction with our products and services will be critical to the revenue growth of the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Fiber splicing in outside plant enclosures, adding new cables, splicing single fiber, Ribbon fibers
• Knowledgeable in CWDM and DWDM technologies
• Splicing inside commercial buildings, run inhouse fiber to customer suites
• Running Patch cords in Headend/CO’s, activating equipment, speed tests
• Enclosure Changeouts/Fiber Cutovers, Pole Moves, Maintenance window work (2am-6am)
• Using OTDR, Power Meters, VFL, and Light identifiers.
• Splicing in live plant
• Installation, set-up and repair of Alpha products in the CATV, telecommunications, power, and mobility industries, including associated fiber optic and network equipment in various construction projects and existing long haul networks.
• Perform network splicing and certification as well as circuit testing.
• Respond to corrective network problems, performing effective and efficient problem analysis, rapid troubleshooting diagnosis and prompt repair of equipment to ensure service restoral objectives are met
• Perform cutovers and upgrades on the network as directed by work orders
• Test, research and implement all new equipment and test equipment and processes into network construction
• Ensure required information is reported to the correct parties in a timely, accurate and professional manner
• Accurately prepare and complete concise reports relating to repair data: materials used, time, etc…
• Perform field service work under the direction of the Technical Service Team.
• Perform customer/partner training on repair practices and system operation.
• Perform other duties with minimal supervision and priority as needed.
• Coordinate many activities on site including site surveys, cabling, power, and equipment installation
• Perform appropriate tests in most signaling platforms including OC-3 to DWDM and CWDM
Qualifications
Credentials & Experience:
• Fiber Splicing experience preferred.
• experience in the CATV, telecommunications and/or power industries highly desirable.
• Ability to work at heights over 30ft
• Ability to use fiber test equipment, OTDR, Spectrum Analyzer, Light Identifier, Power Source, etc.
• Ability to lift equipment/ladders up to 75lbs
• Good English speaking/communication skills required (verbal and written).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong computer skills using MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
• Valid Driver’s License is required
Work Environment:
• 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday, however some weekends or overnights may be required with minimal notice
• Oncall Rotation for Fiber repairs
• Maintenance Window work is sometimes required (2am-6am)
• Willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions
• Ability to travel up to 90% of the time (valid passport required)
• Considerable time spent at customer locations and utilization of work vehicles
• Requirement to travel to remote sites
• In this position you will be assigned to many sites, routes and a large coverage area and will be asked to be in an on-call rotation in order to provide our customer emergency call outs
General Job Requirements
- Must be able and willing to do overnight travel
- Must be able and willing to operate a forklift.
- This position requires you to drive a company vehicle. Therefore, you must be able to pass the company’s driving requirements. Certain vehicles may also require a specific drivers license and have additional driving requirements.
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime.
- Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Risk of electrical shock.
- This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
- This position requires working in a plant/warehouse environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.
