Job Description

Represent the medical/scientific voice and expertise of the affiliate for assigned Neuroscience products. Provide expert medical/scientific advice and guidance to key customers for assigned products and therapeutic area, including scientific exchange and the development of professional relationships with key opinion leaders and external experts. Offer medical/scientific input to Medical Affairs strategies for the affiliate medical department and commercial plans as required, as well as medical/scientific support for department activities under the overall supervision of the area Sr. Medical Manager. Provide medical support to multifunctional affiliate teams. Ensure that the Medical Affairs role is fully integrated to support affiliate business strategy and execution, while remaining functionally independent.


Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned products/relevant therapeutic area(s) via participation in key internal meetings/training sessions, relevant congresses and seminars, as well as regular self-study of national/international literature.
  • Provide expert medical/scientific advice for assigned products and related therapeutic areas, including responding to scientific/technical information requests; contribute to the development and medical/scientific accuracy of core dossiers generated by the medical department (e.g., pricing and reimbursement dossiers, HEOR dossiers, medical information packs, clinical expert reviews, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with key opinion leaders, external experts, and academic centers by participating in scientific conferences, coordinating advisory boards, roundtables, discussion forums, etc.
  • Deliver scientific presentations and medical education programs to healthcare professionals individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), as appropriate.
  • Review relevant literature and information from meetings and conferences of scientific societies, and develop key message summaries for internal company use (e.g., key areas of scientific/business interest, new trends in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatments in the therapeutic area, etc.).
  • Provide training to sales forces and other departments; develop and update relevant training materials.

Clinical research activities:

  • Support the Affiliate Clinical Research Department in managing clinical studies as needed (e.g., review new study protocols, identify potential investigators/sites, conduct feasibility surveys).
  • Review and preparation of promotional materials. Ensure medical/scientific content is correct and fully complies with AbbVie internal policies and guidelines.
  • Provide medical/scientific input to marketing strategy and key commercial initiatives as needed. Monitor the environment for competitive intelligence (e.g., product strategies, studies, commercial messages, positioning, etc.) and communicate internally as appropriate.
  • Represent AbbVie Medical Affairs as expert in Abbvie neurologic products and disease in territory, provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure professional and credible relationships with external experts /HCPs of strategic importance to Abbvie.
  • Serve as a point of contact within the Medical Affairs team for external neurology experts within an assigned geographic area in order to satisfy their needs for scientific knowledge in the therapeutic area and, when requested, neurology AbbVie medicines, to support their safe, effective and appropriate use.
  • Develop and execute scientific interaction plans, cycle plans; contribute to cross-functional account planning, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for appropriate tiering and segmentation of external PD´s experts based on guidance from the IFT playbooks and appropriate documentation of HCP interactions and relevant insights in the CRS and related platforms and systems.  
  • Ensure a strong medical and scientific presence for Abbvie in key academic MD/PD´s centers by facilitation of research and educational initiatives, while supporting requests for medical and scientific information on neurology products or the therapeutic area.
  • Deliver credible presentations on scientific matters related to the therapeutic area  to physicians, individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), where requested, but with the focus on thought leaders.
  • Upon request, assist physicians with requests for access to PD AbbVie medicines on a named patient or compassionate use basis, subject to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted with due regard to all applicable local, global, and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, Company policies and accepted standards of best practice.

Additional Information

Degree in sciences (e.g. M.D., PharmD, PhD). At least 2 years of experience with proven track record of success in medical affairs within biotech/ pharmaceutical industry (preferably in Neuroscience). Ability to translate strategies into actionable and realistic medical actions. Ability to lead, motivate and coordinate cross functional teams. At least 2 years of experience and proven knowledge of healthcare environment and evolving landscape. Understanding and previous experience in the scientific fundamentals of experimental protocol development and methodology, data interpretation and scientific communication. Capable of implementing Medical Aff airs tactics with oversight. Strategic thinking, operational excellence, and good communication skills.
