Expedia Technology teams collaborate with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools that deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and employees. Our unified technology platform, powered by data and machine learning, provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

The Software Development Engineer II role is part of our ML platform team within the Platform Engineering Organization. This team supports the MLS and MLE community across Expedia Group in exploring, building, running, and optimizing machine learning models throughout EG's tech stack. These models range from traveler recommendations to optimizing the resiliency and reliability of the application stack. In this role, you will collaborate with a larger cross-functional group to design and develop scalable solutions while driving innovation within the AI and Analytics ecosystem.

In this role, you will:

• Develop and test standard software applications and related programs to ensure they meet design requirements.

• Apply software design principles, data structures, design patterns, and computer science fundamentals to write clean, maintainable, optimized, and modular code with good naming conventions.

• Utilize knowledge of database design to address data requirements.

• Work closely with other functions like Product and Program management to deliver meaningful solutions.

• Coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues.

• Understand the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process.

• Think broadly and understand how, why, and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization.

• Execute tasks and/or provide data to support the implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, process, and technology.

• Report clearly on current work status and ask challenging questions when empowered to do so.

• Develop technical proposals and communicate them to stakeholders (engineering, product, program).

Experience & Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.

• 2 years of experience in back-end software development.

• Proficiency with object-oriented programming in JVM-based languages (Java/Kotlin) or Python.

• Familiarity with data stores, API access patterns, and service integration.

• Understanding of modern testing and monitoring tools, and demonstrated ability to test and monitor your own code.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Front-end software development experience in React, NodeJS, or TypeScript.

• Experience working with Machine Learning (ML) models or ML platforms.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes (k8s) and container technologies.
