DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Software Technical Strategy Director to join our Engineering group at the COM location in Columbus, IN.
This technical leadership position develops and delivers technical talent in a research, technology or product development environment. Directly manages the resources that maximize organizational productivity in support of business needs and establishes/implements long term business strategies. The position also includes maintaining strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders both within the technical function and across the broader business.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Primary responsibility is the development of technically capable people across multiple technical sites within a business unit or corporate area and making people available to perform duties necessary to satisfy the businesses’ technical needs.
- Provides technical leadership for the business's most complex global technical challenges.
- Sets the direction for the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or across business units.
- Coaches and mentors, future technical leaders across a global business unit or corporate area. Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.
- Develops strategies, creates or improves work processes involving activities such as resource allocation and management, organizational and business change, customer/stakeholder management and knowledge management; all used for the purposes of enabling high quality decision making that meets business expectations.
- Decisions made in this role may include resource deployment cost and timing allocations, project prioritization, personnel staffing, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) management, the result of which can impact project cost and delivery within a site or across several sites within a business unit.
- Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and address areas of deficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.
- Product Verification and Validation Management - Develops product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority; negotiates product requirements against capability to guide project scope; evaluates analytical, simulation and physical test results to verify product capability and validate requirements; assesses legacy versus proposed system solution capabilities and produces recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.
- System Requirements Engineering - Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.
- Technical Documentation - Documents of information based on knowledge gained as part of technical function activities; communicates to stakeholders with the goal of enabling improved technical productivity and effective knowledge transfer to others who were not originally part of the initial learning.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- College, university, or equivalent bachelor’s degree in engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Proven leadership as a Technical Advisor or Technical/Engineering Senior Manager working in a product, technology or engineering service area with a successful track record of developing technical talent and enabling high performing teams that deliver on project expectations through a range of varying business scenarios and/or life cycles.
- Advanced level proficiency in many of the enterprise and functional competency areas.
- System-Level Product Launch Expertise:Proven experience leading or contributing to the launch of complex, system-level products. While a background in controls is not required, familiarity with systems beyond electronics is highly valued.
- Cross-Domain Engineering Experience:Exposure to multiple engineering domains, particularly in modern industries such as renewable energy (e.g., wind or solar) is a plus. Candidates who can draw parallels from other sectors to inform software strategy are especially encouraged to apply.
- Business Acumen & Market Awareness:A strong technical foundation complemented by an understanding of market dynamics, customer needs, and sales processes. Experience in technical sales, application engineering, or product strategy is highly desirable.
- Technology-Driven with a Business Lens:A genuine passion for emerging technologies, balanced with a pragmatic approach to commercialization. We value individuals who can identify promising innovations while ensuring alignment with business goals and revenue potential.
