TR Labs is building a new function to incubate compelling AI solutions that solve real problems inside Thomson Reuters and have strong potential as commercial products for enterprise customers. We're looking for a strategic technology leader to stand up an internal incubation model, where applied scientists and engineers help the business workshop innovative ideas, iterate quickly with internal users to prove value, and ultimately develop working solutions that can scale.
This individual brings the right mix of technical acumen, commercial experience, and a passion for leading highly visible and complex projects/initiatives, who can pivot quickly from concept development to tactical problem-solving.
Reporting to the Head of Labs and as the lead for Labs’ technology ventures team, you will:
Run a solutions engineering function that doubles as a discovery pipeline. Lead cross-functional workshops and short-term engagements for promising AI use cases that don't yet have committed capital. Use these engagements to identify the internal problems most worth incubating.
Incubate AI products with internal-to-external commercial potential. Identify high-value use cases where TR faces the same challenges as our customers, in areas such as corporate M&A, regulatory intelligence, and compliance automation. Operate as an internal startup incubator, co-developing solutions in close partnership with invested, internal users. Collaborate and partner with TR ventures where it makes sense.
Lead AI due diligence for M&A. Serve as the front door for technical AI assessment across TR's acquisition portfolio – evaluating targets' AI capabilities, architectures, data assets, and integration complexity. Provide technical leadership surrounding integration estimates and synergies associated with potential acquisitions. Translate findings into strategic recommendations for deal teams and senior leadership.
Lead science and engineering teams supporting the Risk, Fraud, and Compliance product line. Be intimately aware of their priorities and strategy. Identify synergies to incubate related AI capabilities for this segment and adjacent markets
The ideal candidate for the Vice President, Technology and M&A will possess the following:
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field, or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent practical experience.
A minimum of 12+ years in technology roles with progressive responsibility, beginning with hands-on engineering or architecture
Experience building and leading cross-functional teams, acting as a change agent, driving continuous improvement and excellence
Direct experience with production AI/ML systems – from prototype through deployment and scaling
Experience evaluating or integrating technology through M&A, technical due diligence, or strategic partnerships. Able to produce clear, relevant, and accurate recommendations.
Expertise in cloud platforms and modern infrastructure for AI workloads at enterprise scale
Proven ability to bridge technology, product, and business strategy – comfortable at all levels of the organization, able to communicate clearly with sales teams, product leadership, and deep technical practitioners.
Experience in legal, risk, compliance, or adjacent regulated domains is a strong plus
