Business Development Manager, Legal
Are you a proactive, outgoing and results-driven sales professional with a passion to work in the legal industry and drive business growth?
Join our high performing sales team to drive new sales to legal professionals in New Zealand, based in either Wellington or Auckland, New Zealand. You will be responsible for selling Thomson Reuters’ market-leading legal product portfolio, through a deep understanding of client needs, strategic planning, collaboration with our Marketing, Product and Customer Success teams, and high-energy execution.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Business Development Manager, Legal, you will:
Drive growth within a defined NZ legal territory by acquiring new customers and expanding value within existing accounts to meet sales targets.
Build strong, trusted relationships with new and existing customers.
Lead full‑cycle sales—from prospecting and discovery to demos, solution design, negotiation, closing—and maintain accurate forecasting.
Deliver high‑impact demos, workshops, and trials that clearly demonstrate value and accelerate adoption.
Collaborate closely with Customer Success Management, Commercial Excellence, Segment, Product, and Marketing teams to deliver results.
Act as the voice of the customer internally, contributing insights to Product and Segment teams and ensuring smooth handover to our Customer Success Management team.
Maintain strong market awareness and competitive insights.
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Business Development Manager, Legal if you have the following required qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a professional B2B field sales or SaaS business development role, ideally within the legal industry or selling AI solutions/software.
Demonstrated track record of success in meeting and exceeding sales targets.
Curiosity and comfort in working with AI-driven technologies.
Understanding of legal workflows, research processes, and/or the broader legal industry (preferred).
Excellent active listening, negotiation, presentation and consultative sales skills and a customer-centric approach.
Commercial acumen and ability to identify opportunities in assigned territory.
Ability to partner effectively with the wider go-to-market teams and internal stakeholders.
