Department Profile

Since 2007 Morgan Stanley has been expanding its own fully owned premier investment banking and sales & trading platform in India, providing a full range of investment banking, sales & trading, equity, fixed income, commodities and derivative products, as well as research services. Building on this existing platform in India, we are looking to invest in establishing a Derivative Operations division that will continue to recognize and match the global need of our clients.

Background on the Team

The Equity Confirmation Operations team is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and finalizing trade confirmations for equity products such as equity derivatives, options, swaps and structured equity transactions.  The team ensures that all trade details agreed upon between Morgan Stanley and the counterparty(s) are accurately documented and compliant with internal policies, market regulations and legal standards.

As an Executive Director leading Transformation Projects within Morgan Stanley’s Equity Confirmation function, the role is centered on driving strategic, operational, and technological change across the firm’s global equity post-trade infrastructure.  This position focuses on modernizing the equity trade confirmations workflow enabling robust control framework, timely dispatch of confirmations to counterparties and increasing process efficiency.

The functional ops teams’ responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and issuing trade confirmations based on executed deals
  • Verifying trade terms with traders, sales teams and operations
  • Coordinating with counterparties to resolve discrepancies or disputes
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry documentation standards (e.g., ISDA for equity derivatives)
  • Maintaining accurate records and supporting post-trade lifecycle events

Primary Responsibilities

Scope and Purpose of the Role:

The ED will spearhead the design, implementation, and management of transformation programmes that align with Morgan Stanley’s global business objectives, ensuring continuous improvement, operational excellence, and robust risk management.

Specific Tasks:

  • Develop and implement a transformation strategy to streamline workflows, optimize operations, and enhance service delivery within Equity Confirmations Operations.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify, design, and deliver key projects focused on automation, digitization, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders—including business unit heads, technology, legal, and compliance—to align transformation initiatives with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee large-scale projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery, budget compliance, and measurable results.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring team members, promoting best practices, and encouraging innovation.
  • Championing user led Business Intelligence tools within the wider team
  • Monitor and report on transformation progress using data-driven analytics to measure impact and inform future strategy.
  • Manage change activities to address both process and people aspects, minimizing disruption and maximizing engagement across the division.
  • Build strong relationships with internal clients (Traders, Trade Support, Legal, Drafting Teams) to understand stakeholder priorities, protect confidentiality, and address ad-hoc requests promptly.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Equities products (Swaps, OTC options) and their lifecycle.
  • Apply SDLC and Agile principles in daily change management.
  • Lead requirements and user story creation, as well as project testing.
  • Partner with IT to design, develop, and implement technology platforms that address business needs.
  • Continuously identify and deliver value through enhanced business capabilities, efficiency, scalability, and improved operational risk management and controls.
  • Manage time-sensitive regulatory changes effectively.

Skills/Qualifications required

  • Proven experience in transformation and project management within financial services, ideally in equity operations or post-trade processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to think strategically and provide insight into how to improve existing business and technology processes
  • Minimum of 15+ years Investment Banking Operations or equivalent relevant industry experience with exposure to financial products
  • Strong understanding of equity derivatives, OTC confirmations, and associated risk and control frameworks.
  • Strong Communication (Writing and Verbal) Skills. Effective interaction with others across departments and regions
  • Proven track record of delivering complex change programmes in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cultural change and inspire high-performing teams.
