Job Details
Reuters is seeking a columnist to report and write with creativity, authority and flair about law and lawyering in the United States, with a special focus on the business of law and the forces reshaping it.
The column will deliver a sharp, deeply reported view of the legal industry, tracking power shifts within elite law firms, relationships with corporate counsel, and the strategies of plaintiffs’ lawyers in major cases. It will also examine how firms compete for clients, manage risk, deploy technology, and respond to economic and political pressure, including how firms continue to grapple with sustained scrutiny from the Trump administration.
At a time of profound technological, economic and political change for U.S. law firms, the column will provide authoritative insight into how the profession is being transformed, consistent with the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
The columnist must have deep experience covering law and law firms, strong sourcing among top attorneys and industry leaders, and a demonstrated ability to land scoops and exclusives that drive the global conversation and force competitors to follow. The ideal candidate brings original thinking to complex subjects and knows how to turn insider reporting into must‑read commentary.
This is a prime opportunity to develop a new feature for Reuters and Westlaw, two of the world’s most respected brands in legal information and news. This role is part of the Reuters Legal news team. The columnist may be based in our New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles bureaus.
